Hey guys...im getting sick and tired of dealing with these damn power windows breaking on me....

Has anyone done or heard of a conversion from power to manual window cranks.

This would be for my 88 vert.

Thanks

My understanding is that verts with manual windows are extremely rare, so finding the right parts to do the conversion will be tough.
Vert doors/glass are different, so you can't use coupe parts.

Time to fix your power windows, methinks.

Are they broken or just slow? If they are slow you can wire relays into each switch and it should speed em right up.
Iv seen a video of this done by somone in oz and not done it myself so i dont know exactly what you do!
all i remember is you need two relays per side, and i couldnt find the link to paste up here for you sorry.

Found these: http://www.ausrotary.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=123079

Bottom Line,

Everything will transfer easily for the conversion. Each window should take about 30 minutes each assuming you have the manual pieces needed for the install. Yes the vert doors are different from the top half up. You don't need to change your windows. Pull the glass out and change the peices needed. There are about 8-10 bolts if I remember correctly. Put the glass back in and you are done. If you need any real help PM me and I will give you exact instructions.

Another problem you will have though is keeping your door panels and having them work with the manual windows roller upper thinga majiggy.

I did the manual to power conversion just for the sake of switching out to vert door panels.

That is a great link. I always knew the switch was the weak link, but I didn't think of wiring relays in. I have to do this now, because my windows are waaaay slow. Kind of embarrasing to have to help your window up when it's raining.

Just looked at my manual coupe and electric vert side-by-side. The vert does not have the right bolt pattern or the middle hole for the crank on the door. I don't see how the conversion is possible without some drilling.

The actual "arms" that bring the window up and down look very different as well.

Bingo!

I started down this path long time ago. My plan was to add the manual crank system, then use an aftermarket electric window conversion kit to motorize them. This would eliminate all the mazda weak links. My plan ran aground on the incompatibility of the manual window regulator attachment to the vert glass.

So, I cannibalized the roller at the top of the manual crank system-transferred the whole top nylon piece-so that the top slide in the vert version is replaced with the roller of the manual crank unit.

Then I rewound the regulator using bicycle brake cable inserts. DON'T use the Walmart versions -go to a real bike shop and get the very best, preferably teflon coated. This may cost you all of $20.

Then I added the relays to the circuit.

Then I decided to just drive my car for the last four years with no window troubles ever again.
