Hey, I have a 87' diagnostic (beeping) p/s system. Only now I swapped the racks cause it broke. 3 line still fits fine but has a red sticker. Old one had a blue.

My power steering is really soft at a stop. Really really stiff in 1st and second gear speeds. Then semi-stiff in all other gears. Before I had a "different " pump, still had all the lines and plugs in the same places, just had the oil can on its side and no neck on it, just a cap with dip stick. My new pump has a upright can and long next, plastic dip stick. On some, only some cold starts the system will go all soft no matter what gear or speed. Its even softer when the car is moving then when its stopped, but very small difference. It will run like this as long as the car is on. No matter how long or far I drive. If I turn it off and back on it's goes back to being soft at a stop and really stiff then stiff. Any help would be great. I'm trying to get another computer and see if that will help. Thanks!
