nice! that dealer got owned.... dummies.

just for the record though, a branded or salvaged title does void the warranty, all of it. even recalls.

Just so you know:
The plastic on the A-pillar & inside door trim is old and brittle.
It's not unusual to the SM to have you sign a release excluding plastic breakage.

yep the mazda dealership in tampa that fixed my drivers side auto seatbelt made me sign a wavier stating exactly that. he wouldn't do the repair if i didn't. the guys their though said they have done a few of them already so they knew what to do. they didn't break a thing, i was very pleased with their work.

Latest Update

Parts are in and I have an appointment on Friday. I'll take pictures of the plastic just in case, but I'm sure they'll make me sign a waiver.

After the initial refusal they've actually been pretty cool about the whole thing. I found out that the car was branded because it was stolen off the truck when it was being delivered to the original dealer!

Cheers to Mazda North America for opening a ticket for this repair. They don't know it, but they've made it much more likely that I will purchase a new RX-8 and give the 7 to my son. Funny how that works....

I'll post a final update this weekend. Thanks again to all for the great info. This board rocks!

Epilogue

Picked up the car Friday afternoon and the repair was flawless! The belts track MUCH faster and all problems have been solved. The service manager was very cool about the whole issue, and even advised me that the belts have a lifetime warranty (as others on this board have pointed out) and if I ever have another problem to give him a call.

As a side note, the RX garnered LOTS of attention during it's stay at the dealer. Apparently a super clean black second gen turbo with all original equipment is a rare find in these parts.

Thanks again for the help of the board. I would have been screwed without this resource.

Doesn't matter who he buys it from, once the papers are signed they ALL turn into dicks.

I have actually have VERY good experience with the local mazda dealership, or at least the service manager. He gives me the shop discount on parts and is very knowledgable and helpful. I also have a friend that got his seatbelt repaired there with no hassle.

Your luckier than my. I had the one on my '91 locked back like that and it broke in a 30mph crash. I might as well have been wearing a rubberband.

Yeah, it dosnt matter if the vehicle is salvage, or has a junk tittle or anything. its a saftey recall as long as that car is on the street they HAVE to fix it.

I had to take mine in about 9 months ago, they didnt make me sign any release... but i didnt take pictures of the a-pillars. they broke my passenger one in half, and my driver side dosnt stay on hardly at all. i went back to them when i noticed this, and they said it was that way when they got the car. I had no way of proving it, so i got fucked in that part of the deal.

Lol... When I had my mouse belts fixed this fall, before taking the car off the road for the winter, they parked my car inside at night so it wouldn't get stolen because they thought it was too nice... they had 3 new RX-8's on the lot and 2 in for service... I guess clean 2nd gens are a rare occurrence.
