Power recovered: How?

I've had some power loss over the past year with my 86na but haven't yet dug into why. Here's some symptoms:

1) Can't get over 5K rpm in 2nd/3rd
2) Sluggish getting to 5K rpm
3) No power getting up hills (45mph max)

The last thread I submitted on this subject, folks pointed me at a possible clogged cat. Still need to look at that.

However, was on the freeway today and tried to accelerate in 3rd gear & could only get the rpm to 5500. I kept my foot on the floor for about 15 seconds and then the tach started cranking up 6K, 7K...bingo....Now I've got acceleration: 1st gear, 2nd gear, 3rd gear...etc ! Zoomed up the hill at 75mph no sweat.

Can someone explain what might have happened with my 86 na?

Plan to use some Valvoline Synpower Fuel Injector cleaner to see what that buys me next.

Thanks for the inputs..

maybe you finally built up enough pressure to blow that **** outta yer cat

but seriously, it's good to redline your car once in a while. clears out some carbon buildup.
