Power loss, too much air?
Power loss, too much air?
I installed a 4" piece of aluminum ducting running from my bumper to my stock air box tubing today, and now when I hit about 70mph or more I feel a slight power decrease and it sounds different also. I also noticed it in fourth going over 100. It isn't an rpm thing because 1st and 2nd pull fine until 8k, but it did seem to happen around 6k in third. Could I be pushing too much air in for the cpu to compensate for?
I doubt it. My butt dyno doesn't really notice slight power decreases. I'd say your problem might be something else. Maybe try taking the ducting off and then see if the problems is still there. I just can't imagine how blowing cold air toward you air box could cause your car to lose power. Just my "Two Cents".
no, id say youre not pushing enough air. the stock tube is sort of functional, and probably flows better than something you just made out of flex tubing. there is a very high pressure area right where the stock intake thing is, and at high speeds it should flow more air than a real simple diy cai like you made. i would imagine that at low speeds you might feel an improvement tho.

I actually have my stock air tubing. I just removed the little plastic thing that is supposed to route air to the box. I put the 4" tubing running from the bumper to the hood where the seal meets the stock air tube.
I took HHTurboVert's advice and took it off and the problem disappeared. I just did 3 runs up to about 80 in 3rd with it off..... fine. Then I stopped and hooked it back up again like before, and the problem was back. I feel it lose power at WOT in third at about 6k which is like 70mph. It also makes a different sound when this happens, slightly like a bog.

Because I was under the impression that I could make the stock airbox flow better. I also thought I could make a sort of "ram air" to allow more air into the intake. But it seems that there can be too much air.
I highly dout its to much air.. if anything you might have placed the tubbing in a vacume area.. so at high speeds. there is more work to be done in order to suck in more air.. and if you made a hose connecting to the stock box.. thats makes your intake hose even longer.. so it will loose power due to lack of air... not to much... and I dout your created any type of ram air affect.
