Talking "POWER HOUSE AMUSE ECU" JSPEC????s

I have some ? and info.

I know some of you hate the fact that so called " JSPEC tuner programmed ECUs" are being sold on EBAY all the time. I decided to take a gamble and bid on such an item. Long story short i won the infamous(?) Power House Amuse tuned ECU on ebay and WOOOW!!! I was skeptical at first so I broke the seals and opened up the ECU to find the chip had actually been replaced! It had this weird glass peice in the middle of the chip. Anyway idle to boost is much better and boost to redline is AMAZING!! Supposedly it is programmed for intake/exhaust/fmic/FCD/no redline. My car runs much smoother and is not rich like it used to be with the N370. I have to say it was definitely worth the $100.

I started a thread recently asking if JSPEC ECUs would work with ASPEC harnesses and obviously... yes they do. I also believe that the N3Y4 is the JSPEC S4 turbo ECU, not the S5. This has to be why my car did not run well with it. Unless anyone knows for sure, this is just my guess.

I do however have one issue. This JSPEC ECU does not show the CEL light at all. If the ignition is on there is no light. I even tried to pull codes and got nothing. Is this normal for the ECU or is something different in the wiring for the JSPEC and ASPEC? I even switched back to the N370 and the light came on like it was supposed to, but then switched back the N374 tuned ECU and nothing. I know some of you own RHD and is this normal? What should i do what should I check?? Any info will be very helpful and I'm open to suggestions. Hope this gives you some info and hopefully i can get some in return. Thanks guys!!

dont know about the codes, but that little window in the chip is becasue it's a UV Erasable 27C series EPROM which means that you could rewrite the chip after you erase it with a special UV lamp

oh yeah BTW i see your sig says your have a Knight Sport FCD, remove it, teh new ECU shouldn't have the stock 8.3psi fuel cut code in it. If you hit fuel cut then i was wrong and you can put the FCD back

Try S3, not S4. A N3YX is a S3 ecu.

Do you know how long i've been waiting for that? It's about damn time somebody really knew and answered that for me!! !!Thanks Icemark!!

Hey would you or anyone happen to know anything about why the CEL does not come on with this ECU. Could it be something different in the dash wiring between ASPEC and JSPEC??? Or am I completely off?

onePOINTthree...
i took it off already and there is not fuel cut thanks though!

Don't believe that the S5 Jspec ECUs had to meet US OBD I specs, so they wouldn't have the check engine light output on the ECU.

Only OBD I and II spec ECUs would have a check engine light.

so if that is the case, then the guys on the forums with the TRUE RHD/imports like NZ Convertible could vouch for that. anyone wanna w/a RHD wanna post? ??anyone??

hhmmmmm... that almost gives me a gutwrenching feeling knowing that something might be malfunctioning and I would not be warned about it.

also when you say OBD I and II ECUs not having to meet US specs, your specifically talking about the FC ECU right?

I think Icemark is fully qualified to answer that question for you.

OBD I didn't go into effect until '90... Mazda put it on the US spec 89 and later FC models.

Jasons (NZ) is an 88

and you do understand that the OBD systems are only to alert of a malfunction of the emissions systems. The fact that it covers the MOP is a extra and simply because of the electrical MOP in the first place. OBD does not cover any other engine functions that are not emissions related. So your motor could be pouring coolant and oil all over the ground and you probably wouldn't get a check engine light.

I know that OBD is for emissions only, i had to deal with this issue when i was swapping motors in my 90 integra.

However... when i talk about the CEL, i'm talking about when a part of the motor electronics is malfunctioning. For instance, Boost sensor goes bad or reads funny, Code 13 will come up or Trailing coil is not firing, Code 1 will come up knock sensor and so on and so on. I'm concerned about those things and like i said earlier, my light will not come on even if i try to check for codes nothing will come up. I'm just worried that something will fail and cause my motor to run odd or poorly. i dunno, i just dont want anything going boom or the motor failing b/c of this.

i know that icemark is fully qualified he's the only person who's been able to answer the questions I have, i'm am NOT questioning his knowledge. just trying to get info.

From what I read, he stated that the ECU will simply not throw a CEL for anything emissions related. However it would still do it for mechanical failures related to the actual engine, low coolant, low oil, etc. Most of these items can be monitored more accurately using common sense, and properly installed oil press/watertemp/EGT gauges etc.
