power door lock relay

power door lock relay

i got a 91 n/a and im trying to find out where the power door lock relay is. i know its in the trunk somewhere but dont know exactly where. my locks work when they wanna work. the actuator is good and its getting power. im going to clean the contacts on the driver side switch later on tonite. im not sure what else it could be. if anyone has any suggestions please let me know. thanks.

I have uploaded a diagram showing the location of relays in 86-88, I'm pretty sure they have stayed basically the same. Hope it helps you.

Your problem sounds more like dirty contacts in a switch, it is very unusual for a relay to be "intermittent"- when they go bad, they're dead...Stranger things have happened though....

the contacts on the switch are surprisingly clean but i cleaned them again anyways since it was open. the diagram looks good. ill give it a shot. thanks everyone. if any other ideas come up let me know.

ok so i just checked the relay and it seems to be working. when somone locks/unlocks the doors, it clicks. on a far chance i thought maybe it was stuck so i tapped on it as the locks were pressed but still nothin. i opened up the passenger side door panel and everything is connected and tight. so no im out of ideas. need some help!

Have you tried diagnosing the problem by applying direct voltage to the different stages of the system, therefore narrowing down what section might be faulty?

Just a thought.

i did think of that but i didnt have the time so i ended up getting my old p.o.s. alarm (not the stock one) out and a new one put in. so everything should be working fine when i get it back. thanks for all the help everybody.
