power on a budget

hi all just wanted some advice on a budget setup i have planned (just forked out 4 a rebuild and hd clutch recently). i already have 3" turbo back pod filter and bov ive managed to pick up a second hand safc. and a new apexi manual boost controller im gonna get fmic and then have it tuned at 10-12 psi apart from maybe a fuel pump would u guys recomend anything else to go with that to keep things safe. also im going with a universal fmic wat sorta size should i be looking for that will fit nicely in my s5 turbo?

larger budget than i have...

i'm aiming for 12 psi with 720cc secondary injectors, safc, 2.5" turboback, fd fuel pump, and a manual boost controller. Pretty much the bare minimum.

I'd hold off on the FMIC & get some larger secondary injectors first.
The stock TMIC works quite well as long as your moving. It's only problem is standing at a red light.

Cheap will bite you in the ***.
If you can't afford proper upgrades, don't do them.
If I were you, I wouldn't mess with a "cheapie" boost controller.
This is where a lot of people get into trouble.

Sure, you can buy just the turbo...
You still need (if you don't have them by now)...
* upgraded fuel injectors
* upgrade fuel pump
* downpipe (adapter)
* custom oil lines (maybe even coolant lines)
* custom intake
* FMIC highly recommended
* something to control the fuel a little better

How much does that add to your bill?

If it looks too good to be true, then it probably is. Everything Ted said in his first post is true - if you can't afford to do it right, then you definately cant afford the rebuild when you blow up your engine.

12psi on stock turbo not gona kill him though.

TMIC is kinda crappy but stay with it because when you go FMIC then comes ducting a larger rad and hoses and 800$ in piping and a bov.

Run a walboro 255 a FPR with injectors around the 800 range. Pull your timing back if your to cheep and skimp on a stand alone and a wide band with the SAFC and run it at 12AFR or so.

The manual boost controller should work out if your waste gate is ported enough.

Theres what to do just so you know the ^ would never be sent outa my shop. Build with out the cheep go fast in your mind and it will run. If you need to use the word cheep in your sports car drive a honda.

You run into problems around 250-300HP. That's when you need fuel upgrades, etc.

You've upgraded the exhaust, intake and intercooler already, right?

stock s5 fuel system is easy for around 290 flywheel hp! there's nothing to worry about! just be sure that you don't overboost (not over 14psi), that you have a low restriction exhaust system and especially imortant to me: FMIC!!!

there are three circumstances causing detonation (=engine rebuild):
1. lean fuel/air mixture
2. too hot intake temperature
3. too much boost, especially with stock 3-piece apex

with your quite smallish (when it comes to rpm) stock s5 turbo, you need quite high psi to get reasonable hp. so it is elementary to remove the crappy TMIC and go to a efficiently cooling BIIIIG FMIC!

that was a nice setup for me, and it dind't give me any detonation problems!!

To clarify on what I said before, I read the stock setup is plenty good up to 300HP but you start stressing it (shortening its lifespan) after 250HP.

Everything else airworks-fc3s said seems right to me. But I wouldn't know about the different intercoolers, except that bigger ones usually cool better (duh).
