I powdercoated the purple you see in the pic along with the alternator and alt pulley. I removed all of the studs from the intake, but did not tape off the mating surfaces. I had to sand the the powder coat off and had a hell of a time chasing the vaccume leaks. Eventually I had to coat a second UIM because I couldn't get the mating surfaces true on the first one.

Watch your pulleys. I'm having a problem with the friction heat generated by the belts and the powdercoat is softening and creeping.

Love that color of blue. I used anodized silver under the candy purple. Looks like I may need to order some chrome for the next one.

Ouch, that's not good. Some engine degreaser will knock that out though.

Good tip. I was going to prep with JUST degreeser (soap/brissle pad) and then a wire wheel brush (drill & smaller dremel one). That's all you need for high temp paint to stick.

Oh wow, I hadn't thought about that. I've just been prepping & painting my fasteners. As long as the polishing media doesn't destroy the threads of the fasteners, this soulds like a great idea. The polishing tumber better take some larger bolts though!!!!

If the polishing doesn't leave any residue, I'd pickup a zink coating kit as well to restore the OEM fastener look, prevent rust, and provide at least some dirt repelant protection. A friend also said to zink coat a separate set of sockets to prevent rubbing off the zinc or transfer dirt when tightening the fasterners down.

I've also seen the "chromed" fasteners on showcars, but I think the "soft sockets" that prevent scratching the chrome only tighten down to like 10-15 ft-lbs. Haven't figured out how to avoid this... unless you pop-on some caps ontop of the bolts/nuts.

You do NOT want to paint/powdercoat/chrome the inside of your pulleys. They will slip and that ain't good.
