powdercoating catback

is this something that is feasable? I like how it looks silver..but it attracts WAY to many cops. Would powdercoating black work, or should i paint it with engine paint? what would you do.

Im not doing this anytime soon, just throwing up ideas

This sounds like a really good idea. I think an angled out Apex'i or Corksport catback is way too commonly thought of as a "ricer punk kid who's mommy bought his car" instead of a reasonable performance upgrade. I think that people that have perhaps a Greddy Power Extreme don't have this problem because it's a custom looking exhaust.

I think this is a pretty origional and good idea.

it'll probably just melt off. might be ok if you only do the mufflers... but I certainly can't touch my tips after driving, way too hot.

Yo,

Maybe some kind of dark ceramic coating, Jet Hot or some such. The rotary engine's exhaust is WAY hotter than a piston engine...any paint or powdercoat would probably quickly melt or flake off.

I painted my old cat-back with high heat engine enamel. When I got rid of it after about 6 months of driving, it still looked ok. The paint burned off the Y-pipe a little, but the rest was just fine. Also the pacesetter cat-back i have now is powder-coated black, and it is still looking very good. I say if you want to go ahead and paint it, just make sure to prep it properly 1st, and it should last just fine.

how would you go about prepping it for engine paint? Is there a primer you have to put on or just clean it off?

IMO, it mostly depends on on wether you have an N/A or a TII. If you have an N/A you should be able to get away with it because the exhaust temps aren't as high compared to a TII. either way, like rarestRX and rxmfn7 said, use a high temp paint designed for engines and you would probably be alright.

they actually sell paint in spray cans for exaust, I used it on my vert wayyyyyyy back when I first got it and the mufflers tips were rusted. I cant remember for the life of me the name of it though, I have a can of it at my shop, Eastwood sells stuff also, but I know the spray can I have was good for 1500 degrees, I think I may have just put another coat on a few months after the first time.

I just took the time to wire brush it all down real good, and make sure all the dirt and any resedue is all off. I'm pretty sure I didnt use any primer, just gave it like 2 good coats, and it was fine.

It must be possible...I have the RX7.com catback system (actually it's Bonez and I have the full system ), and the piping and collectors/mufflers are all painted black. It has yet to melt or run at all. There must be a way.

Buy the N1's already in black

Or gold, or blue, or green, or purple...
