Cruise control was often installed by the dealers as a mark up item (just like sunroofs on GTUs models)

My '88 GTU also came with the ghastly stick-on fender lip guards as shown above in this thread. I heated them up and peeled them off because I hated them. Like secondmessiah says, that kind of stuff has a way of trapping dirt and salt (in the East) which can turn into rust. Ditto the nasty door edge guards and mud flaps -- blech!

 

Yeah, it's like at the fender flare level.

 

Mine came with the mud flaps, door edge guards and crom fender lip things too.

My previous Black 1990 GXL, same year, had leather in it with the exact same options as this car.
My current one however is way off original condition.

 

im buying my 87 gxl tommorow, the cd player has been serviced 3 times, keeps breaking, i wonder what the problem is?

my 91 vert came fully loaded with am/fm/cd/tape but the strangest option is the subs behind the seats, i've never seen that on any other 2nd gen. they work ok but nothing to write home about.

It's the same part that keeps going bad i imagine, i'm wondering which one it is. I already have an aftermarket stereo and harness for it, so i'm not really worried, just interested.

The car is currently in a paintshop getting a full re-spray. I'm going to have to figure out how to get new stickers made after I get it back. Bodyshop owner says Mazda is quite likely to still carry them

I doubt it though. I'll probably have to go to a stickers shop.

 

are you talking about the stripes or like the gxl or whatever stickers? mazdatrix has the gxl stickers but i have no idea where you would get thoes stripes replaced. i like em

I have the original window sticker and it says shipping weight was 26xx lbs. No rear bins either.

 

You would think that every 'wierd' option would have been discovered by now. I mean this thread was started in 02!!!

cruise control, sunroof, full maroon interior, no 3rd brake light, sports wing

 

I have a 86 gxl
its pretty normal except when i changed my driveshaft out it happend to be huge! Like it looked like a t2 shaft in my na, and i know its stock cause it had the non replacable u-joints.
