post-rebuild, ran then quit
I just finished re-assembling and installing the engine, and went to start it.
it started almost right away, and I was very pleased.
I revved it up a couple times (not past 2500) and held it at about 2000 for about 10 seconds.
when I let off the gas, the rpms dropped pretty low, then recovered to idle speed.
it was there about 3 seconds, and it died.
I cannot get it to restart.
all went back on except for the oil metering pump.
(cruise and sub-zero bottle were also removed, but I dont see that affecting it much.)
the EGR valve is installed, but it has been disabled.
all else is as it is supposed to be.
any help appreciated.

rule #1, do not let the RPMs dip on a fresh rebuild or you will flood it out. #2 be sure everything is perfect before trying to start the engine because you will not want to shut it down for about 20 minutes. #3 hold the RPMs up at 2000 for about 10 minutes at least while you have someone look around for leaks.
now that the engine is flooded you need to lean out the fuel system either manually by pinching the fuel feed line, by removing the EGI fuses and doing the unflood procedure and hope or by installing a fuel cut switch to turn off the fuel pump.

searched for unflood, and found the procedure you speak of.
that got it to start again.
unfortunatly, there was alot of fuel coming from the lower fuel rail.
not from the pulsation dampener.
I am going to walk away from the car for a few days.
I spent almost every waking hour for the past 2 weeks working on it, and am not yet ready to take off the upper intake again.
