possibly blown...dont wanna talk about it...give me good news please

ok well...last night i was cruising down the highway around 80mph and the car seemed fine. ALL OF A SUDDEN...my exhaust note changed which made me wonder a bit. I hit the gas to check and see if everything was fine, and it WASNT! NO ACCELERATION at all, and sounds like its running on one rotor...well as best as i can imagine that sounds, as i have never heard it before.

NOW - THE HISTORY....was completely stock, i installed rtek, injectors, TID, K&N filter, exhaust, fuel pump.....

no ported wastegate....

AND i was running the stock fuel pump because i was having idle problems and thought it had something to do with my Walbro...

the stock pump didnt fix it, and i didnt have a chance to put the walbro back so i was waiting for the weekend.

could my engine have leaned out from just cruising?

would stock pump not be strong enough for 720cc secondaries running on RTEK 1.7???

i used a crappy gasket material for my UIM to LIM gasket...if that blew out would that cause this???

HELP ME PLEASE....

im getting the compression tester from my friends after i get out of work at 7...im just looking for some good words, and some HOPE for my 7.

Pull the egi fuse and the front leading plug. Crank the starter. Replace the front plug and take out the rear. You should be able to hear if it is blown. Constant "Pshhhh,Pshhh,Pshhh" == Good. Galloping "Pshh,.......,Pshhh" == Bad.

i know that...tried it last night only without taking the plugs out...you can still hear it...but it sounds like my starter is having a hard time spinning the motor...(harder than usual) so im not really sure....it was hard to tell...they were evenly spaced though.

in addition to that, you can also place your thumb over the spark plug hole-you should be able to feel compression, if you have it. it wont tell you how MUCH compression you have, but it will tell you if you have some. or you can get a compression test done-its not that expensive.
good luck

my friend has a compression tester at his house that im gonna borrow...its a regular piston engine one, but itll do the job.

I dont have the car with me right now. I drove my dads jeep to work. He is away for the week luckily. I was just hoping people would have things to say to make me think its not blown....and ill be able to fix it....MORAL SUPPORT....

dang sorry to hear, sounds just like my motor, cept i had front zeros.

it wont lean out cruizing enough to detonate,

it probably was just on its last leg and desided to let go while you were cruizing down the road. how many miles were on it?? roytaryts are known to let go with out warning

126,000 miles on the original motor...not great compression on the front either though....oh well.

Where is Rotary Resurrection located? EDIT: just found out it was TN...NVM!! For some reason I thought it was on the east coast....? Im wondering if its worth driving it down on one rotor and dropping it off...or if I should send him the core?

I looked into doing it myself, but its about 1000 for the kit, and only 1200 plus shipping for a professional to do it....uhhhh....sounds like a much better idea. SO long as everything is reusable that would normally be reused...

OWNED!!!

just kidding... Give Kevin Landers a call, since you are on the east... I have heard many good things from him and bought quite a few parts from him... It had all been a positive experience... His price is cheap too, fix it and keep on enjoying your car!

Right now, I can't spell rescruection... so I can't tell you where he is located... but if i remember correctly, he lives in the same state as Jack Daniels?

haha you beat me on the post there...

I have a second motor in my garage that i know nothing about...I was told it has about 50,000 miles on a rebuild...but who knows....he sold it to me and i never checked it out...it came with the car...

can i pressure test the coolant system to make sure it isnt leaking?

can i pressure test the oil system to make sure it isnt leaking?

obviously i can do a compression test....

if all that checks out is the engine all set?

That engine is questionable... It happened to my friend... he bought a t2 with 2 cores, supposed to be good... both bad and rotted... coolant seal, and stuck apex seals...

maybe send both motors to him so he can pick whats best from both and take some money off on the rebuild too???

There is a place in Louisville KY that does rebuilds as well Search up Ludwig Motorsports or hit up some Indiana folks, Fort Wankel's several places that rebuild for you! The best thing for you to do is pull the motor , tear it down send them what they can use.....and let them do the rebuilding.

um... porting is a good idea. or just get a waste gate welded to your exhaust side of the turbo.

im guessing it had something to do with my heavy foot/no ported WG....boost creep sucks.

i dont have great compression on the front rotor anyways...so it was time to rebuild anyways.

because he had a modded turbo rotary with 126K on the clock on the orginal motor, and with a heavy foot, im suprised he got so much out of it.

Rebuild it man, we have the technology, we can make it better, stronger and faster than before

David Loring Racing aka Motion Dynamics Racing in their new location in albany nh. David is a good guy who used to race a 13k rpm redline 1st gen. Give him a call first and see what he has to say. I also met a guy in plaistow who races 7's and did his own engine work but that was 10 years ago. Found him through the want-Advertiser.

while you're at it pick up a want-ADvertiser and take a trip to brandy brow to try and score some good stuff cheap. ~rich
