Hey All,

I'm going to look at a 1989 RX-7 GTUs tomorrow.

70,000 miles

They are asking $8,000, but hopefully they'll swing a deal with me.

What sort of things should I look at and inspect?

Any advice would be great!

Whoa 8 grand!!! I think that's a bit high, I would try to get them down a bit. If the car is perfect it may be worth that. Look for the usuals when buying a used car, obvious oil, and coolant leaks, etc. Drive it, and make sure it runs smooth and shifts easily. Good luck.

check ALL fluid levels just to see how they keep the 7 maitenanced
judge interior

look for rust

How can I check compression? I was gonna have my mechanic look at it of course.

 

$3000-$5500 is more along the lines of a price for that car, in very good shape to add. Things to have done/look for:

• Compression test(at a rotary shop)
• Overheating(let car idle for half an hour or so)
• any leaks of anything at all(make sure you run the car on cement during daylight)
• smoke(of any kind, from anywhere)
• Rust
• Modifications(never know what some people will do to their cars)
• Maintence records
