Is it possible to force fuel the wrong way through the rail?

Ok I had an issue starting my car (88 t2), so I swapped out the fuel pump, the car started up after i swapped the pump out put I am wondering if I swapped my fuel lines and with the upgraded FD pump was able to force fuel in the rail the incorrect way..? The car runs although started leaking fuel at the rail today.... Any thoughts?
