Possible Fake 10th AE?

Hey guys, I have a friend who's selling a 10th AE, and I'm looking to buy it, but I just ran the carfax and it reported an odometer rollback. After getting a paint job.

I'm not so much worried about paying for a 10th AE (the guys asking 3500) but im more concerned that the owner who rolled back the odometer wasn't truthful about other things, one of which was an engine rebuild. Is there any way to tell if the car is a 10th AE from the VIN? It's JM1FC3323J0623808

Thanks

yeah I looked around the registry, no perfect matches but a lot were pretty dang close. I'm more concerned about the mechanical condition of the car. I don't so much care that its a 10th AE, I just want an FC and the price is right. I'm gonna have a mechanic who knows what he's doing give it a once over before I put any money down.

Do a compression test. Any idea how many real miles on the car?

Oh cool, it's nice to know the guy was truthful about something haha.

As far as mileage, I'm pretty sure the actual mileage is somewhere around the ballpark of 133k. So nothing awful, but still, 30k miles is a decent difference.

As far as a compression test, I'm gonna have a mechanic take a look over before making an offer. I drove it yesterday and the only biggish problem I noticed was the 3800 RPM hesitation but from what I've read it's not a huge deal.

If you aren't looking for a 10th AE, you can save yourself some bucks and get a run of the mill S4 TII.

That car is terrible! It looks like it has been hacked up by a kid. The only "nice" mod (IMO) are the seats. What a terrible example of a 10 AE--not to mention the price!

I'm not really set on the 10th AE, it's just that I want an RX-7, I know the guy, he lives about two minutes away and he's only asking 3500. I'd still be interested if it was a NA 2+2 haha.

However, if I do get the 10th AE, i refuse to do any mods. I will not be held responsible for modifying a limited production RX-7 haha.

I might change the rims though. Those rims are horrible. I like the BBS style that was on the convertible.

....on a side note I kinda liked that Red Suns sticker haha.

I have 2 n/a 2 + 2's and I paid $400 a piece. These cars randomly appeared 20 miles from my home. One had most of the Sport package aero. Both had Finishline super stereo systems. And one even had a pair of Finishline foglights.

So a little patience can get you your moneys worth.

A 20 yr old car that has an asking price of $8500 should at least have the body panels fit properly...at the very least the turn signals should fit in the bumper.

You'd be surprised how many cars have ridiculous body kits on an FC, and are asking for $8k+. Car worth goes down with modification!

My friend didn't roll it back, the previous owner did. But yes, that would be a pretty crummy friend to try and pull something like that. I would be pretty pissed.
