What are the possible causes of running rich?
Off the top of my head I can think of a couple..

faulty afr
leaky injectors

 

FCs run pretty rich to start with. How rich are we taking? Like you can smell it or you can taste it?

 

Can see it.
Any other causes you can think of?

Bluish-white smoke out of the exhaust when decelerating.

 

thats not fuel.

 

You're describing what sounds like oil burning.

 

I actually do smell gas sometimes sitting at a light. I do belive im running too rich. Any sugg of what it is?

That is oil burning if ur getting smoke from ur pipes.

I know you guys automatically want to diagnose a given scenario.

But, let's assume that we're talking about a car that is running rich-not burning oil or antifreeze.

Faulty AFR
Leaky injectors

Any other causes that you can think of for a TII to be running rich?

 

Bad o2 sensor

 

fuel pressure regulator, idle mixture adjuster, throttle position sensor, coolant temp sensor, coolant thermoswitch, air intake temp sensors, faulty afm, atmospheric sensor, boost leak

almost all of these can be checked with spec's in the fsm

 

Smoke from tailpipe = Bad Read Seal IMO

How do u know u running rich?? Got wideband?? What's ur afr reading??

 

I'm running rich too. No smoke, but only getting 120 miles on a tank.

If you can smell fuel then you're not running rich you are leaking gas.

You should send your injectors out to be serviced, and make sure your fuel rails are not leaking fuel. The pulsation damper / FPR are notorious for failing and leaking fuel.

The FC can and will catch on fire due to leaking fuel. We lost an 87 TII in the mid 90's due to fire from similar situation / symptoms.
