possibility that the speedometer delays

Is there a possibility that the speedometer delays? if thats a possibility, how do i fix it?

got money for a new cable?;-) i hear they are damn near impossible to get. my speedometer is fast.. and after i get above 110-120 it just stays there...and i know im going 140 plus

Up to 5 MPH reading fast is within specs, but if it is reading slow, then the cable or tranny speedo gear is bad or the speedo itself has been damaged.
