Possessed headlights
So, I did some searching and only found a partial thread on the aussie forum, but it had no ending lol.
My headlights are stuck up. I disconnected the battery, manually put headlights down, then, when I reconnected the battery, they popped right back up lol.
Yes, the switch on the dash is in the down position lol.
It's kinda obvious it's a short of some sort, but electrical is waaaaayyy totally my weak point. So if someone out there could possibly direct me towards some answers, that'd be stupendous. thanks!!

Do the lights also come on or do the assy just rise on up?
What year car?
And you know about the other switch just above the headlight switch that can make the assy's come up but lights off? Yes?

Not to imply any silliness, but like Hailers mentioned, have you made sure "both" switches are off? You could find out if it's a short in the switch by unplugging the switch harness as well.
Well we figured out it's a '90 non turbo car. Does it have factory Theft protection?
The way it works sorta: switch to ON.........when you do that a relay in the headlight switch gets a ground put on it. When that happens the contacts inside that relay pass power from the HEAD fuse to the retract motors. The retract motors always have batt voltage on them from the RETRACT fuse. So now they will either go up or down depending on the positon of the headlight switch.
There's also another switch just above the headlight switch and this switch can also make the headlight assys go up down.
A car with FACTORY THEFT can also make them go up down by putting a ground on the relay I just mentioed above. IF you have factory theft, I believe you can find out if this is the culprit by just disconnecting the elect plugs from the CPU. Then the lights should work normal if that were the problem.

I really gatta start remembering to put year and model of my car, sorry guys. 90 na.
Hailers, I am gunna go out and try your idea, I do have factory theft.
and yes- I know about both switches lol. and yes, they are both to where they should be lol.

There's what? Three elect plugs on the CPU? The one that counts is the one with the B/G wire in it called T-20 as shown in the two jpg called LIGHT GREENTWO and LIGHTGREENTHREE below.
Looks like a large plug so look for the plug with the wire colors shown in the jpg attached. The others can stay on the CPU if you want. Hard to get at plugs if memory serves.
Anyway, in the very first jpg I attached called LIGHT, you can see the B/G wire that comes from the CPU on a series five car, and goes to the Retractor Relay in the headlight switch. It puts a GROUND on that relay and pulls it in. If it pulls in then the headlight assys go up and stay up til the ground goes away (like pull the T-20 to make it go away).
