Porting the TB
Porting the TB
Ok im having my 88 GTU Taken in and im getting my TB modded. in other words im getting it ported out and putting a bigger butterfly in it. now i have been told that inside the TB is coated for less air resistance going into the engine. but if that is true then will modding my TB really help even thought if the coating on the inside is ground.
oh and i searched and cameup with nothing

Have you even looked at the TB yet? It doesn't have one bore, it has three. The casting is quite thin so there's very little metal that can be removed to accomodate bigger throttles.
All this work you have planned is a waste of time and money. The stock TB is huge for the power an NA can make on the stock intake manifold. Turbos can make 400hp with them. Any airflow mods you make are going to have at best a tiny effect on performance. If you're getting this done for free then you're just loosing a bit of your time, but please don't pay for this...

Who is doing the work?
Do they specialize in this type of work?
Do they realize that the throttle butterflies have an assymmetrical bevel on the edge?
It's not as simple as just cutting out the appropriate shape.
You need to get the edges beveled right, or they do not seal correctly.

It's not that it doesn't work, it's just that it does stuff all. If you can do it yourself and don't mind spending the time there's no reason not to do it. It's just not worth paying for.
