porting questions
i'm in the market for a jspec or a plain ol usdm t2 engine. but before i throw it in i want to get it ported. the question is what's the best type of porting to get. I dont need it as a daily driver because i have a wonderful piece of economical korean machinery. but i was curious as to the specific yields the certain ports give you. Also the price i've been seeing is about 200 but when i checked with shane from rotaryworks he said it would probably be better to pay about 1200 because they'd have to replace all the waterseals and what not. Just want to get your guys opinion since the majority of you know much more about this than i do and researching it can only yield so much information. Thanks
Joe

Try these links. They can probably explain more about porting than I can .

www.rotaryengineillustrated.com (Click on Rotary Engine 101: Ports)
www.yawpower.com (Click on Tech Articles. There is at least one article that contributes to port timing.)

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
Porting requires a complete teardown of the engine block. So, if you're going to get an engine that you want to port, you might as well buy a block in need of a rebuild. Then, you'll have a rebuilt block WITH porting job for a lot less than a used that you get ported.

One word of caution on that....... Its probably better to get a RUNNING block thats ready for a re-build du to a coolant seal leak or something minor like that.. if the block has eaten an apex seal or something along those lines, it could get pricey replacing the damaged parts (ask me how i know!!!!!)
