Popping under full throttle

When I push the gas pedal down all the way I hear a strange pop noise come from underneath the hood. It sounds like its coming from the driver side area of the engine and kinda sounds like metal tapping metal once or twice. Anyone else ever experience this? Im thinking it might have something to do with my ignition since im still having this damn problem of it not going over 3800.

It could also be joints or engine mounts. You should check the whole front system (suspension and steering)

If this is a Turbo II - could be detonation. What does your air/fuel gauge read? If it's the stock TII, time for the full tuneup/60K mile service.

If it's an NA, then it really needs a tuneup if it's detonating.

um YES it could VERY WELL be detonation. Man, i would upgrade your fuel system ASAP or plug that intake back up. Jesus man, you are lucky you havnt blown your engine, no exaderation there at all.

detonation hell yes. Get a walbro255 on that car instantly!! What boost are you running? Get a EGT guage instead of the pretty lightshow you get from the a/f guages.

You definitly need to chart your air/fuel vs RPM on the dyno and bump up any spots in your dyno that are running lean.

For your first run, I'd bump everything up ritch and then dial down in susequent runs.

Put the stock airbox back on. That'll help to keep the boost down 1psi or so.

You are detonating. Switch to the highest unleaded octane gas that you can get your hands on if your not running it already. Only get gas from known stations, and avoid getting gas when the tanker is there.

There seems to be a lot of this going around. Detonation after mods, especially the cone filter.

Get an upgraded fuel pump on your car or your engine is going to blow.

An unshielded cone intake will increase your intake temps around 20 degrees atleast. Don't believe me? Do a spirited drive staying in the 4-6K neighborhood. Get out, pop the hood, and I dare anyone to grab onto any metal part near the intake and not take their hands off of it.

I'm speaking from measured experience.

get bigger secondary injectors,a good fuel regulatorand like every one sayes a walbro fuel pump.

Don't let it detonate for the love of god.

P.S. make a sheild around your air intake.

I have heard the same noise on my car except it is all stock. It sounds more like a popping engine mount but then again my mounts look fine. Possibly a suspension piece. It only happens under load and it pops twice, almost a clunk. Doesn't sound like detonation, but then again I haven't heard detonation on a rotary motor before(if it sounds any diffrent than a piston motor).
