CO Popping Exhaust

I just got a 1988 TII RX-7, Still working on getting insurance and title is in limbo so I cant drive to have the compression tested. However the exhaust has been converted to a single, and it makes alot of pops when revving up and coming down from a rev, is this a problem or is it just because its old. Also is there a way I chheck the compression without bringing it to a dealership??

Pretty sure injectors are stock, Ill ask the previous owner but im 97% sure. Also stock ECU, the car is bone stock which isn't a bad thing at all. But anyway, I can rent a compression tester from autozone?? Really thats great Ill have to do that, is the process pretty quick an easy, sorry I am a newbie to this stuff. Thanks a bunch for the help you guys.

My dashpot was screwed all of the way out and during shift or decel, my car would shoot flames. Adjusted it to stock levels and its gone now. Shooting flames was pretty damn cool though.
