pop off valve

these things are cool, you can save your engine from boost too much boost (boostcreep) if your to lazy- like me- to port the wastegate. I hit 9 psi and stay solid to redline in 3rd 4th and 5th. I would HIGHLY reccomend one if you upgrade your exhaust and intake to the point your getting boost creep.

Yeah.... at your turbo is over spinning like a friggin raped ape...

Seriously dude... You're gonna burn your turbo out if you keep using the pop off valve as a boost controller.

I was thinking about doing the same thing until DR Dave at KDR said.... (Inhale on a smoke.... exhale...) "Hey, Homer, your gonna kill the bearings in yer turbo doing it half assed like that!!! Those things are for boost spikes so you don't pop a seal. When that sucker opens up, it lets the pressure off the compressor and the turbo spins its happy *** off until it burns itself out.

A pop off valve is only an emergency device. It should not be used to limit boost. You need to port your wastegate, or restrict the intake/exhaust.

And again, a boost controller cannot lower boost past what the wastegate would achieve naturally. If you are booting to 12LB, putting in a boost controller won't help as your lowest boost setting will still be 12PSI.

Can you guys explain how a pop off valve works exactly??? I have one on my old trust fmic as well as a bov however I'm not sure what psi it pops at??? There is a screw on top what does that do??? THanks I'm going to do some searches as well but thought I would post here because it was brought up.

ps. I am getting my wastegate ported as we speak so I'm not using it for that reason.

Fairly simple. When boost reaches a set point, the valve opens up and dumps the excess air to the atmosphere (or back into the intake before the turbo). You set that point by setting spring tension, which is probably adjusted by your screw.

A blowoff valve opens when the intake manifold is under vacuum. This prevents the turbo from trying to push air against closed throttle plates.
