Polished stock wheels
The thread in the archives about restoring and polishing GXL rims is closed, so I thought I would reveal here how S5 coupe wheels look polished if anyone cares . .
That is a quick start on polishing the front one with Mother's aluminum polish (awesome stuff). Anyone else polish your stock wheels?

I polished my S5 turbo wheels, but its hard to tell in my sig pic. Its the perfect angle to not show off the polishing.

Laying Down Rotary Law
I'm polishing My 88 TII wheels as we speak
done 2 so far
I first use paint remover spray
then DA them with 220 Then 400 then
600 wet and 1000 grit by hand
Then I use a buffer with polishing compounds
to get a near chrome look
I try to get some Pics tommarow

Any close up shots?
I have the '91 coupe rims on my Turbo II also. Don't think I'll be polishing them but maybe I might reconsider.
BTW, your car is getting better and better.

I think the previous owner sanded off the sandcast texture before he polished them before I bought them. They were on ebay ($67 for all 4) and I didn't know that S5 coupe wheels aren't normally smooth on the faces until turbojeff pointed it out. I'll get a closeup pic tomorrow. There is still some oem texture on the sides of the spokes and inner area, but the lip is polishing out pretty well. Time for some smaller profile tires.
I'm using these instead of bling 17s because they are lighter than the phone dials they replace, but with more tire width and rim diameter. I'd bet they are less than 30 pounds each with the tires mounted.

It's starting to gleam but not quite like a mirror yet. That shot was with the flash lighting up all the haze still on the metal which could get polished off with more time rubbing it.
