Well, check to see if you have a decent engine to start with, good compression, good oil and water seals.

Then do a 60k mile tune up, replace all of the vac lines, clean the injectors, and replace the pd or remove it and get an aftermarket FPR. Upgrade the fuel pump to a walbro or something better.

Then you'll need an FCD and an exhaust system and a WB02 system to watch to make sure you arent running lean. I'd also highly reccomend a front mount intercooler.

Then personally i'd reccomend skipping a piggy back piee of crap and going with a MSNS or a Haltec E6 series.

A BNR stage 2 will get you 300HP perhaps, but a T4 setup would spool better, or a GT35R or something along those lines. Then youll also need more fuel for 300HP of course.

hmm well karack rebuilt the engine 8 month ago approx. 5-6k miles ago. everythings running pretty good with exception of the cats being melted so preventing it to boost how it should. but after i ge tthat taken care of i have a corksport catback exaust sittin in hatch so FCD is first?

I would go with 3" TID Intake first. When you have the money, get a 3" Full Exhaust, and get ready to do some wastegate porting especially if you have a s4 t2. You might get away like me if you have an S5, because I see 8.25 psi all day. But porting the wastegate would still be a good thing to do. If your gonna up the boost, get an electronic boost controller with a bigger fuel pump and secondary fuel injectors. considering he is in california, and probably wants to pass smog like me, I recommend a piggyback such as RTEK 2.0 for S4, or HKS FCON with GCC or SAFC for S5 to control fuel, and piggybacks are good for easy swapping when needed to pass smog. If you want to cheat smog or dont mind spending a lot more time putting oem parts back, then go ahead and go standalone which should be microtech or haltech, because thats where most of the support is at.

I'm going for 280+rwhp with a BNR Stage 1 @ 14psi by this year. Similar to what you want. well, good luck.

1. All maintenance items and repairs.
2. Some method of tuning (SAFC, piggyback ECU, standalone ECU or etc.). This is essential to protect a turbo motor against knocking due to other upgrades. Don't do the opposite: don't use it to push your engine's limits. Knocking can pop a rotary quick.
3. Full Exhaust. 50 easy horsepower.
4. Intercooler. As an engineer I don't so the point of a cold air intake if you have a good intercooler. But I could be wrong; perhaps even a good intercooler could use a helping hand. Lowering the temperature will give you more air just like raising the pressure will.
5. Upgrade fuel system and mechanical parts before going past 250HP.

Those are the basics. You have several options after that as people have already mentioned. I don't pretend to know any more than the basics.
