Plugged muffler or natural?

I just fixed my 88 SE, plugged cat. A big metal rod took care of that problem.

Anyway, is it normal for the driver's side muffler to emit most of the exhaust or is it possible for my passenger side muffler to be plugged somehow?

when you put your hand down near the d.s. muffler, there is little puffs when it is idling. P.s. muffler, however, barely has hot air coming out, let alone a puff or any sign that exhaust is escaping.

Just curious if this is natural or not. Some people tell me due to the way the exhaust system is set up, the exhaust is going to want to travel to one muffler more than the other, but they look at me funny when I show them the situation. They are expecting the p.s. muffler to be doing all the work. Something about shorter path of travel being that the manifold is right of center.

well I know on mustangs, more exhaust gas comes from the drivers side pipe. But they have true dual exhaust, save for the h-pipe connection.

Hmm, on the RX-7, at least on mine, they seem to emit the same amount.

See, that is what I figured. It should be the same amount because it is a single pipe that turns into a Y-pipe. The amount shouldn't be greatly different on one side than on the other.

Anyone know of any way to easily unplug the muffler w/o me tearing it off the system. I don't have the tools up here at college to do it, if I go home I just lift the car up on the hoist and play with it then.

Yup HOT air coming out of both sides...all of the time...in equal(or what seems to be) proportions

I believe you are gonna have to remove the muffler and maybe the y-pipe to fix this problem. I dont believe there is a way to do it otherwise like you asked. Sorry

Well, the muffler does un-bolt from the Y-pipe. Hopefully all of my problems are located there and I won't have to pull the whole thing down.

Will probably do it this coming weekend, will post an update then.
