Question Please Help. So close to starting.

Hey guys. I havent posted much. Cause i dont have much more than common sense. and I know when to keep my mouth shut. But,ive been watching and learning for a couple of years.

I have a 87 GTU i think, well its was N/A. and i had a couple of junk T2's i picked up to learn. Well i rebuilt a turbo engine and got everything together. but my starter is causing me troubles. For one, i have to jump the solenoid with a screwdriver, havent figred out whats wrong with that... The problem i nee your help with is that my starter is spinning but its not turning over the engine. I KNOW the starter works.. It cranked over the other motor... But i had a friend rebuild it anyway... Is this a bad ground... or what? Please help... In advance i appreciate it...

I've seen how as a team you gys can tackle any problem... I'm very eager to fire this bad boy up and take her for a spin. Well after the smoke clears....

Well, I don't post much either, but I'll take a shot.

Your friend didn't get the starter together correctly. If it worked on another engine, and then he rebuilt it, and it doesn't work on yours, thats the deal.

It doesn't spin the engine over probably because the solenoid is not actuating the linkage rod to throw the gear out to meet the ring gear. That would be the place to start your diagnosis.

Good Luck,

Yea ill pull the starter and check it. Thats kinda what i was thinking.

Haynes was saing something about a clutch that needs to be replaced inside the starter.

But i just realized a much deeper problem.
The alternator harness i was trying to use was from a T2 and it does match up at all with the N/A body harness....

I'm a just about to go to Rotary Resurrection and see what they have to say..

Thanks guys,
TREV
