Please help me with my brake problem...

Here is the senario. Brakes suck so i rebuild the fronts. Bleed and bleed and bleed... still mushy pedal and crappy braking. U have to floor the brakes to get anything. Positive rebuild and bleeding is good. Also strange things. If im driving down the road and pump the brakes instead of the car jerking and stopping the pedal gets harder to push and the brakes are harder to aplly. WHat the heck is the prob? Vacuum leak at the booster? Havn't been able to figure this on out.

pass this by some-one

just thinkin about what you posted ..maybe your master cylinder is gone...when pressind on pedal does it slowly go down? not really a brake "kind of guy" so this is what seems to be my observation..guys? ..pitch one in here...( sorry if i didn't catch it..did you thoroughly bleed each caliper...check the seals..

*fc3stech when will you be installing your new master cyclinder? I hope that works out for you and in turn works out for me. If you pump the brakes will driving does the pedal get harder and the car stops even worse?

*misterstyx69 When i press the pedal when the car is off it is just mushy and disgusting. It does not pump, get tight and if i hold my foot on the brake the pedal will slowly lower from when it pumped up to. You cant even really pump up the brakes when the car is off. They are just extremly mushy. When the car is on i have to push the pedal to the floor to get it to stop at all.

I will beinstalling a used one from a buddy maybe tommorow he just said he has a parts car, the one I bought new hasnt been shipped back yet to them yet, also it does get a little harder when pumped but braking doesnt get worse, I can still lock the brakes if pushed hard enough, but the brakes are real squshy no where near how they should be, and I hear a slight creaking noise when I apply the brakes, I will keep you informed though

ok keep in touch and let me know what happens. Also i just want to share this piece of info. The first time i bleed my brakes after the rebuild and took it for a test run i was able to floor the brakes and make them lock. The pedal was still mushy and nasty. I felt something wierd happen with the pedal and i thought i heard a something pop? and the the brakes got how they are now.

took a look..

this i was noticing...there is an o-ring on the cap.check it out..make sure it's ok..or that it is in place or what-ever..fast and easy..also you said you rebuilt the calipers ..damn..the only route is process of elimination go to where you started check, double check work your way up..are ther any connections ..like wher you replaced a section of line..if you eliminate the calipers ,the lines and eliminate the "distibution thingy"(so i'm not perfect!)..check the master ,the booster and the vacuum lines to and from the booster...a little more..Good luck, post with results ..tnx..misterstyx69

I wondered if it was the proportioning valve or "distibution thingy" as you say that has failed. Anyone know if they fail often. Also i noticed when bleeding them the last time. Aloy less fluid would come out of the driver caliper than say the passenger one. Could this be the prop valve or the master cyclinder?

Hey DRIFTIN8ez, I was telling you I was going to change my Master cylinder, well I finally got to do it last night, I pulled it from my friends N/A part car, and put it in, Funny thing is I didnt bleed it last night due to know one to pump brakes, but I filled it up brakes pedal was so soft and easy to push, this morning i go out there, and I test it and the pedal is nice and firm I even drove it to, differance between night and day, I can tell it need to be bleed because I know there is air in the system, but I will do it tonight when I get home, my old master failed at less than 100,000 miles I have a 87 tII so even if you got low milage it most likely will be it, if you did everything else, I am pretty happy now

Master Cylinder

Install a new Master Cylinder. It's inexpensive and easy to install. The internal seals fail over time and an internal leak will cause the problems described.
