Angry please help im stumped

about a week ago i noticed some gray smoke coming from the exhaust i stopped to check it out when i got out i smelled burnt oil the oil level was almost not reading. i looked under the car about halfway down the exhaust oil was dripping. i added oil and kept checking it. since i added oil the level has been fine. after running it awhile you can smell some burnt fluid. even stranger since that little incident if you start it cold and take off within 5 mins the oil pressure will only be around 30 once you ride a few minutes it goes back up to sixty. if you let the car warm up awhile the oil pressure is fine from the start. i just bought this car a month ago i am a mechanic and understand most things with the motor but honestly i just dont have any experience with them at all. i have noticed no performance loss. 86 rx7 gxl n/a at. yea i know the auto really sucks hopefully i wont have it to long. if anyones got any advice my email is esparks85@earthlink.net

The lower the revs, the less oil pressure you'll have. The higher the revs, the more you'll have. Rule of them is ~10lbs/1000 RPM.

I'm sure you know this, but if you ever get less than 7 with the car running, figure out why . Also, these cars eat about 1 qt/1000 miles of driving, so keep her filled up. It's natural, part of lubricating the rotors.

Oh yeah, the stock oil pressure gauge, like any stock gauge, isn't THAT accurate. If you really want to monitor your oil pressure, get another gauge.

Good luck, and get rid of that slush box. It'll really wake the car up!

At the risk of stating the obvious, you need to determine the location of the oil leak. Not sure what you mean by "halfway down the exhaust", so not sure how to advise you what to look for. Depending on where the leak is originating, could be simple could be fatal. Maybe the following will help if the leak is, in fact, engine oil.
PS: Go here to download the factory service manual.

See if the leak is coming from the oil metering pump area on the right hand, bottom side of the front cover. The lever is a likely place for oil to leak. There's a *O* ring on that arm that might need replacing.

Or it could be one of the oil metering lines leaking.

Or it could be the oil seal on the transmisson input shaft.

Or it could be the seal at the rear of the transmission where the drive shaft connects.

Or it could be the pan gasket.

Or it could be one of the oil injectors input lines cracked and leaking, dribbling overboard.

None of the above will cause smoke out the exaust.

A oil metering pump lever stuck to the full up position will cause smoke out the exaust.

Worn rotor oil seals will cause oil out the exaust.

A oil filter mount assy has two small *O* rings and they could be leaking down the left side of the engine and on back. Won't cause exaust smoke though.

Get rid of the automatic. The car does not have enough power. Personal predjudice.
