Please help an aspiring enthusiast out.

Hey everyone,
I have an '86 RX-7 whose engine just died on me and I want to replace it with something more powerful now that I have to pull the engine. I have managed to locate a '93 Twin turbo engine, transmission, and ecu for around 3000$. Now, I talked to a seller on Ebay who has the mounts so I could put the FD engine in my car, he said that other than the mounts I would need an intercooler, an aftermarket ecu, and some misc swapping style parts.
Now for my questions. Do I really need the after market ecu? If so, which ones would anyone recommend and about how much am I looking at? What good but cheap intercoolers could I find that will mount easily into my FC? What misc swapping style parts was the guy talking about?
I have about $5.5k to spend on this project. Is this do-able or will hidden costs kill me on this one. If so, what other project should I keep in mind? Sadly I dont know anything near what I'd like about cars (other than the basics) and I'm slowly learning. Any help at all is appreciated.

are you sure its an FD engine? because they only sell mounts (to mount into an FC chassis) for the Cosmo engine. And the Cosmo only came in Automatic? You need to ask this seller to get his facts straight. I am in the process of doing the Cosmo swap right now, and trust me, its a lot harder than it looks. Try and locate a Series 5 long block engine, and I highly recommend the Microtech LT-8 (if you wanna tune urself). IMHO its a lot more user friendly than a Haltech. But if you wont be doing any tuning get a Haltech E6k. They both should run around a G, and the engine 900 maybe?

How much more power are you wanting? You could get a TII engine which would be a hell of a lot easier and be able to push out nice numbers.

As far as power goes I'm thinking > 255hp. From what I am learning from the very helpful conversations ive been having, a TII engine would be a better way to go. So, with that in mind.. what all do I need to do a TII swap?

engine, tranny, TII rear

I think that is a lot more feaisable swap than a FD engine - take a look at the FAQs, good resources in there in refrence to your questions
