I wish i could ... I sent my Turbo off to be Hybrided (?? not sure the plural of that) by Bryan at BNR ... I don't have a stock Turbo to try right now. Keep in mind this could be my fault I am not placing ANY blame on BNR at this point. But I am close to the point of 'what else' it spins very well, and feels great. so don't think is the bearing ... I will have my new exsaust installed on Tuesday, I am SURE its not that .. bu I will know for sure then... I mean they failed the guy in front of me for a bad/clogged cats ... but I passed with a large street port? plus I should get some boost!?

Yes, at the moment I am .. I have a "real" gauge (not installed yet), but I know its not the gauge .. the car is slower than my N/A .. its not boosting, no turbo sound, no BOV going off, and no power. My N/A with 202k Miles would smoke this car right now.

I mean it has normal power.. but like my N/A type power.

Few things -

Does you turbo have a clipped turbine wheel? If so, this does greatly affect spoolup. The hybrid turbo I had ages ago didn't make crap for boost without a boost controller, which was actually good - I had some semblance of boost control. But, you should be getting a little boost.

Is your throttle opening fully? Make sure the floor mat isn't jammed under the gas pedal, the throttle cable is on properly, the thermowax isn't stuck and choking the secondary throttle plates.

When you get down to it, this is actually an easy problem. Turbos *want* to work. Typical scenarios are -

- plugged exhaust
- plugged intake
- plugged intercooler or popped off IC piping
- throttle not opening fully
- bad turbo

You mentioned something about a Racing Beat exhaust - are you installing the full turbo back exhaust? Regardless, any RB exhaust is SUPER easy to install - no welding or anything, it just bolts right on. You might have a collapsed muffler or something - I've seen that one happen before.

BTW, glad the resistors worked for ya!

Well, I know I am getting full motion from my accelerator cable. I have chacked that.

I removed my secondary throtle plates when I over hauled my upper intake.

I pulled the hose off the wastegate acuator completley and tested for boost ... so I doubt a boost controler is going to help.. it just controls the flow to the wastegate right?

I do have a 15 Degree clip on the turbine wheel .. but I know my exsaust is in decent shape, ... like I said it passed smog with this exauhst.

I re did all the IC piping ... my TID is perfect and all new, plus id did the same thign with the stock TID.

Can you spin the turbo by hand?

Make sure the w/g is fully closed.

Are you serious??? Maby BNR builds there turbo's with bubblegum holding the internals together. Sounds like a wastgate problem!

Okay, Assuming it may be a wastegate problem. But i have checked to make sure the actuator rod moves, BNR did my wastgate porting and my whole wastegate setup also... And, should'nt I get 'some' boost if I am at full throttle for a extendid peroid of tiem in 4th gear .. I mean went from about 40 MPH to 80+ in 4th .. with NO boost.

yes, the turbo seems to look fine & spin very well, from the front. Nice and balanced.

I guess I will try to take the whole turbo off tonight to visually check the wastegate puck.

Dude! your car should build boost as soon as you have a little load on the motor, somthings wrong with it!

That might be a great idea. I am going to pull the Turbo tonight or tommorow, take a real good look at the wastegate, if the wastgate looks fine .. i would like to try that turbo .. just to eliminate any intercooler, or other problems. That way I will know if the problem is the tubo itself... or somthing else.

I will let you know the verdict as soon as I pull this one.
Thanks alot for the offer.

I dug up this PIC from right when I got the Turbo back from the rebuild. I took a pic of the wastegate setup. It looks okay here, what do you guys think?

BTW: I am holding the wastegate open a bit .. so you can see it.

sounds like your pressure sensor vac line could be disconnect, though I doubt that since you've double check everything....or the sensor maybe bad all together......I know my pressure sensor vac line came off and I drove it for about 5 miles taking it easy but I notice even when I give it like half throttle it stays below 0

I know the line is okay I just installed a new one from Mazda .. with the factory pill in it.

I should test It I sopose to be sure... thats easier than pulling the turbo. But i get no codes when I try to pull codes, I would get a code if that was bad would'nt I?
Also ... if that was bad.. would it make me get NO boost? I pretty much thought boost was mechanical, not based on any sensors per say.

Again, this is a mechanical problem - don't go messing with the ECU.

It's really hard to tell from the picture, but it almost looks like the wastegate hole is bigger than the flapper door. Is that the case?

Yes, you can pass emissions with fugged-up exhaust. One dirty test you can do is remove the oxygen sensor and leave the hole open, and go for a quick spin and give it a try. The hole just after the turbo will give you some more flow if your exhaust is plugged somewhere. Again, good for a quick test only!

You're using the S4 turbine housing and manifold from what I can see. What's up with the twin scroll flapper in the manifold - is it still there? Open? Closed? Working?

Have you tried a quick test with the wastegate vacuum line disconnected? That will leave the wastegate closed, and you should hit boost REAL quick.

Again, this isn't a complicated problem - this is truly a mechanical problem. Take your time and you'll find the solution.

The twin scroll system has been removed, and the hole has a bolt welded into it. No leaks there.

I have gone for a ll out full run with the wastegate hose removed, same exact problem, no change at all.

The flapper door is just a tad bigger than the hole .. but and well within the %75 rule.

I have not tried a run with the O2 sensor pulled, that might be in order.. . But I will have my full exhaust installed tommorow so I will know then if thats a issue, I am having my doubts that its a exhaust issue .. but I am willing to try anything.

I'd just wait till the new exhast goes on.. and see what happens.

with the wastegate hole overported, and the cliped turbine. it'll take quite a bit to spool it

If I recall correctly .. It's not overported.. the cover is just a tiny bit bigger than the WG hole .. it doesn't look like that on the picture but it was.

If I hook up my RB downpipe & just presilencer tonight.. and leave off the y pipe and mufflers. Just to test this thing, will the police come? I mean how loud will it be?

Okay here goes nothing

I am about to go outside and pull my stock exhaust off. Couple of questions.

1. Look at this setup, how loud is it going to be with no Y pipe or mufflers?

2. Is this thing going to spit flames out at the middle of my car right before my gas tank??? I have alot of fuel.

3. What direction to I bolt the presilencer onto the DP? the end in the PIC has a couple od inches without muffle material. the other end the muffle material goes all the way to the end of the pipe. Also, is it obviuois where this Pre silencer arm bolts up?

Thansk alot all, and thanks for your help with my latest problem.

Really, to pull off the cats you have to remove the cat-back anyhow - might as well do the whole works.

Anyhow, orient the pre-silencer so the hanger lines up with the hanger that's from the tranny - that will solve that for you.

You can run with just the downpipe/presilencer, but it will be REALLY loud and about gag you with fumes.
