Please Help!!!

So two days ago i bought an 86 ( i think it is the sport model) with only 90000 miles on it. I got it for 500 bucks and got a spare motor and a complete harness also. The car runs but wouldnt go past 3000 rpm until i discovered that the mass air flo sensor ground was just hangin by the 5 dollar ebay special intake. Also about 3 minutes after starting it up the coolant buzzer goes on. then about to minutes later the temp gauge is close to being pegged. I replaced the thermostat and it seemed to stay about half way up the gauge and i took it around the lake where i live by the time i got back to my house wich was like 5 minutes after i left) the temp was buried in the red and it was steamin like a ************ blowin water everywhere. it also runs pretty rough and im thinkin it might be a blown apex seal, but it isnt smoking that bad. I did the compression test and i heard clear woosh noises like your suppose to hear. my dad thinks it might be a bad water pump but i dont know. Please give me some input. Thanks

Blowing like a M/F? Time for new seals. Sounds like water pump blew and if you have a bad overheat then the rest of the engine is toast. If you search this topic you will see a bunch of differant opionions.

wen u did compression test did it do 3 even bounces? thats how i did mines and say the rear rotor was bad

well where was the coolant coming from after your drive? did you pop the cap off and the pressure sprayed all over you mean?

to me it sounds like you just didn't bleed all the air out of the cooling system or you have a faulty cap or a massive leak in the cooling system somewhere.

Listen to Karack. Check the whole cooling system. And compression test too. If it still turns out to be bad, atleast you can put that other engine in.

If you pegged the temp guage its highly likely your engine is toast. As MID said, be happy you got the spare.

So when the needle started going to red you just figured red meant go? (Kinda like everyone at the f'in red lights around here...)

don't count on the spare motor being any good, troubleshoot the problem before writing it off.

today im going to check the water pump hopping that its bad. But the car still runs like ****, like its loading up it pops real bad when your givin it gas.

no when i replaced the thermostat i took it around my lake where i live cuz i thought all was good. the car runs like ****. tho. i dont know what to do

Well, check the water pump.... re-seal it/rebuild it or get a new one.. but it sounds like bad things happened... and "bad things" usually mean a rebuild.

i was thinking that my car is runnning like **** maybe because of a vacume leak? why would it be popping past 4000 sounds like a popcorn machine and is gutless. i think it just might be time for a new motor.

Where or what part of the engine did you see the steam or water at? Was it from the coolant reservoir, radiator, or the front/ rear of the engine? Need more info.

it was coming from the resevoir, spraying out. im pretty sure i saw it coming from the bottom of the car somewhere to.
