Exclamation Please guys, Help me pass emissions!!

This will be my third attempt at passing ive already falied twice. I need you guys to tell me how to lower the HC's and the CO's.
For HC's i got 10.83, limit is 2.00
and for CO's 38.66, limit is 30.00
I installed my freinds 87 exaust system for a TII that has one precat and then to bonez hiflo cat. This was the only thing i modified for the emissions. What else would you guys recommend doing to lower my emissions? I was thinking of using that "guaranteed to pass" or somthing to clean up the engine a little.
Thanks.

Is your car running way rich at idle or something! Damn. Do you have all of your emissions equipement on? EGR, Air pump, silenoids? ETC... My N/A passed with about .01 HC and like about the same C0 levels, and that was just with Header and 1 HF cat...

i'd test your emission equipments (ie. acv, egr, and such), and also sensors (ie. water thermo sensor, intake air temp. sensor, water temp. switch, etc.)

When was the last time you gave the car a tune up (oil, spark plugs)?

...all emissions removed...

good luck!

There's MA state law. (I was reading this yesterday, because my old 7 was bad like that) If you fail, then take the car to the shop, and can bring it back to the inspection station with a reciept of the work done (whatever it was, so long as it was emission-related), then you're excempt from another emissions test.

It costs more, but it's a way around...

You really need to do all that before you can pass. Also putting your emissions stuff back in would help a lot too.

see here...

http://vehicletest.state.ma.us/repairinfo.html

Looks like you'll have to pay $300 in repairs before awarded a waiver from emissions.

Ok Jgard, Thanks but that doesent seem like itll help me much. Id be better off paying someone off to do it for me.
Lets just try to stick to the topic though. How do i lower HC's and CO's on my car?? Is there a way to do this that you guys know??
Thanks for all the info so far.
Oh and just outa curiosity when is it that cars do not need to get emissions inspected?? I know its after a certain amount of time...

it used to be 15 years...and damn, I wish it still was. But under MA's new law, anything older than 1983 (or any motorcycle) is totally exempt from emissions testing.

So, you're out of luck there...

Mechanically, unfortunately, I'm not going to be much help. But I do remember reading that people have had random unplugged vacuum hoses, and once they plugged them in, their HC's dropped to almost null.

I know jersey is 450 and you are excused from the test. I imagine you could go down to some shop or something and pay some guy like 40 bucks to make up a receipt saying you paid that much. why does he care 40 bucks buys him food and beer for the night

You really need the airpump more than anything. I went four rounds with smog testing before I finally realized that my port air solonoid was stuck open and my airpump's output was being dumped overboard. Got everything working perfect and HCs were over 10X allowable at idle. (Kinda close at 2400RPM) I got the port air working correctly and passed with 1% of allowable HCs.
Also, not having the airpump will kill yor cats.

Roll that car down to TN and register it here. No smog checks required. You see broken down cars belching smoke all the time.

Ok well judging from the fact that ive been told already from at least 10 ppl that i need an airpump and an acv to pass i guess im going to have to install them and then try to pass. But first im going to try to cheat and pay some dude off to pass me cuz i really dont feel like doing all this nonsense to get my car to pass. I just want my rotary to be in natural race form with no engine restrictive bs emission's crap. GOD I HATE F!@!$@ EMISSIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh and thanks for the help guys.

hell all he needs to do is go a couple miles up to NH. I pass everything and I can even run lead fuel and no one cares. i dont think I have any kind of emission device left on my car. It also smells like its ripping a hole in the Ozone layer behind me as I drive down the road. I think i can hear it tearing.

The Bonez cat does no good unless you re-install your air pump or get an electric one (Corvette I think).

Well WITHOUT ANY emissions equip how do you expect to pass?????

Come on. they put them on there to PASS not to clutter up the engine bay.

I'd say Tune your S-AFC and add the Airpump.
A CAT is useless without an airpump. It needs fresh air pumped to it to help reduce emissions.

Here is one trick which might hurt your engine if done wrong.
Take 2 bottles of Rubbing Alcohol and pour them in a 1/4 full tank of gas and get your *** instantly to the place and test.

My friend with a 91 Camaro RS which had double the HC's,etc. He did this and almost passed with ZERO everything.

After you pass get your *** to a gas station so the alcohol doesn't kill your engine. It might have a different more volatile affect on a turbo engine due to boost.
