Thumbs down

ive been tryin to start this rx7 for a while now. i just got the new starter today. i hooked everything up. as soon as i plug the negative battery cable on the battery, the starter immediately starts to turn and wont stop until i take the cable off. im pretty sure the cables are rite. i want to think the ignition switch is stuck in the on/start position and wont come out of it. but im not really sure. if neone has ne ideas, please let me know.

i have a 91 stock N/A. i just bought a brand new starter. i hooked it up and installed it. i go and hook the positive cable to the battery and then the negative, but when i plug the negative in, the starter goes. it doesnt try to start the car. the gear in it just goes and turns like crazy. we cannot figure out exactly wut is wrong. correct me if im wrong. from wut i no, there are 2 relays that controls the starter. theres the "starter" relay and then theres the "starter cut" relay. we want to think that the starter cut relay is stuck on and wont turn off. we really need help on this one. ive been working on this car for about 8 months now. if neone has ne ideas or can tell me wut is wrong please tell and explain. otherwise i dont no where to go. no one answered my last thread

ignition switch shorted out? that or just a plain 12v short on your solinoid wire... test for power on that wire (which you WILL find) then remove the fuse that powers it and see if it still has power, if so it may be a short..

Frequently Asked Questions on the 2nd Generation RX-7 - FAQ for FC

there are locations for fuses and allll kinds of cool stuff in there.. not sure which fuse it is, but if you search for FSM (factory service manual) you will find wiring diagrams that you can figure out what wire goes where what they all do... etc etc

but there is a fuse panel under hood and one driver side left of clutch pedal

did you hook up the battery wrong? Neg terminal is the one nearest to the headlight, while the positive is the one nearest to the shock tower.

smack your fried upside the head for starting so many threads on the same thing in less than 24 hours. It makes him look like child, who is too impatient to even wait.

You have the wiring on the STARTER connected up wrong. Only one large cable goes on the starter solenoid. It's the cable that comes directly from the battery positive post. It connects to the post on the solenoid that already has a cable on it. THAT cable that is already there is coming from the internals of the starter body.

NOTHING goes on the other large post on the starter solenoid. The only other wire is the small wire going to the small blade on the starter solenoid.

The starter should also have the negative cable coming from the battery attached to the LONG bolt that holds the starter in place.

hailers don't you mean the large cable goes onto the post without the cable that is already on it? The way you explained sounds like just the way the OP did it causing it to turn on when the battery is hooked up.

also does a turboII have the negative cable attached to the long bolt on mine there isn't anything on the long bolt.
