Platinum plugs in turbo bad idea?
Platinum plugs in turbo bad idea?
I took my TurboII to the dyno shop (193 rwhp @ 5.5 psi on a mustang dyno, which I guess is a really good pull they say). Anyhow, the first run they measured, I guess they say it detonated a little, because they were measuring the Air/Fuel and seen a big spike followed by very lowered air/fuel mixtures from there out.
He asked what kinda plugs I'm running, and I told him the NGK Platinum (I believe they're the BUR9EQP's, whichever one they DON'T say "don't use" because it flakes after a while).
He said that's a bad idea to run platinums in a turbocharged car, because platinums hold heat. Now, if this is the case, then what's the deal? Should we use these in TurboII's or should we not? We can get the same plug in non-platinum, is that a better choice?
