Planning on buying a 1990 GTU but...
i was wondering if its worth it being that it is $2,200 i looked at the car, body is in good condition and so is the inside, but the engine has about 127k miles on it. so is it worth buying it for that amount because i plan to turbo it later, i used to have an 88 FC Vert but my engine blew, it sucked it was a really nice car too
.
Thanks
.Thanks
ok because i found a 91 turbo II for 3000, but the guy said the ecu is messed up so how much is that to replace and is it hard? and also wouldnt it be easier to put a TII in a GTU? because i guess it's ready for it.

As far as I know its easier to not swap an engine than swap a whole engine into a car.
If you put a TII in a GTU you'll need to buy the TII engine, tranny, driveshaft, ECU, and a whole bunch of other goodies that'll total to more than 2-3k.
I believe the market value for TII ecu's go from $100 to $200. It depends on which ECU and S4 or S5. It also depends on market demand, so... At least you could find one of them on the forums here. Just post up or find a post.

Unless you mean that since the engine has lots of miles on it, you might as well put in the TII engine instead of rebuilding the current motor.
Buying and putting in the new ECU for that '91 TurboII would be infinitely easier than turbo'ing the GTU. I mean, you would have to use a Turbo ECU anyways when you do the engine swap.

What do you mean by "ready for it"? I wouldn't exactly say that the GTU comes "turbo ready".

yeah thats what i meant since the engine is almost gone anyway, and the 91 TII like i said has a messed up ECU and the guy told he broke the key for it and he has to do something weird just to start the car, and the body and inside of the TII is messed up, the GTU body and inside is really good. and i dont mind buying everything to swap a TII into the GTU.
Quick question i also wanted to ask, what exactly is different from the GTU model and the normal model of the 1990 RX-7, what exactly does the GTU have?
THANKS

there is a sticky thread at the top of this forum with the specifics of each model.
The short answer though is that the '89-90 GTU was the base car: single piston front brake calipers, solid rear brake discs, open diff, manual roll-up windows, base seats. Don't confuse the S5 GTU with the S4 which was much better equipped.
u asking how dificult it is to change a ecu? u shouldnt even think about attempting a t2 swap. let alone actually do it.
nothing against u but it requires decent mechanical knowledge to do a swap and the questions u ask makes me think u have none.
and 127k on a n/a is nothing a well taken care of gtu is not unheard of reaching 400k.
buy the gtu drive it around awhile save some cash to do the swap right and read up on the fsm and variouse threads on here about swaps and then do it after u have aquired the knowledge
