Pineapple Racing Sleeves

i am just curious about people's experience with these. Worth the $49? i figured that since the product is still fairly new, maybe a few more people have tried them. Obviously, they are better than stock sleeves or no sleeves. I am more curious about whether or not they are worth the money.

Also, is the increase in power substantially greater than the loss in torque if 6ports are wired open? I am trying to get mine working right now, but if I can't this is a concern.

they generally are considered to be about a 5 hp increase at above 4000 RPM. Based on that, they are probably one of the cheapest mods for extra HP.

As far as wiring open, you will loose low end torque, but if you only drive above 3500 RPM or have a ported motor then there would be a distinc advantage to removing the ports entirley. But just wiring them open will result in a loss of HP and Torque, where you generally need it the most- accellerating from a stop.

If you had a Honda with its Vtec, would you wire it, so the engine only performed well in the upper end??? Wiring open the 5th/6th ports could be considered the same thing.

Ya, from what I read, Rob and Pineapple Racing seem to be pretty good, and I haven't heard anything bad yet. i just like to get some "real-world" advice first.

Well I called Rob up and ordered mine. I cant wait to put them in with my new engine and . I figure I am sticking an engine in, might as well spend the 50$ and throw the sleaves on. I'll let everyone know how they are after I get everything installed.

From what I remember, you have to send him your sleeves. He then presses the new piece into them.

That's great and all, but if your 7 is a daily driver, it'll be either out of commission for a little while, or you will have to buy a new intake gasket, and run it without sleeves for a while.

Just something to remember before you try and order them....

Rob has had bad luck with people sending in their core replacements, so I think he only does the job if you send your sleeves in for the mod.

It's worth it IMO.

yeah, he used to send you one of his and you send yours back in exchange, but he did say that people were dicking him on that one.

is that all his sleeves are - just inserts that install into the stock sleeves? I visited the PC site, and I thought that's what it said.

I just went to the website, and he charges a core charge of 15 bucks that he will refund when you send in your stock parts....it even says on the page that the inserts just snap into the sleeves, so I don't understand why not just send them out and let people snap them in themselves

The core charge info on the site is obsolete.

The inserts are held in by some sort of glue/bonding agent. I don't know what he uses, but I'm sure anybody can do it themsleves. I personally sent my sleeves in and had him do it so that he can see and approve of the final product before it was sent back out to me.

I just recived my sleeve inserts today. Anyone know what the glue/bonding agent is, otherwise I'll just give Rob a call.

I was not charged a core fee, I just sent him the money, and he shipped me the sleeves.

Well, this gives something to think about anyway. i will probably get these eventually, but I would love to see a dyno pull of a stock engine and one with the sleeves. I might give Rob a call, but I dun know if he would have anything like that.

For the amount of money they are I think they are well worth it. I will know for sure in about a week or so, when my I get my engine in.

Q: anyone know what I can use to glue/bond the inserts to the sleeves.

thanks

I have a pair of the sleeves on my car (S5). I find that with the sleeves when my 6 ports kick in it feels like Vtech in a way. .. But then again my car is built for mid/high end power.
Cheap good investment. I recommend this sleevs.
I'll be dyoing my NA in a couple months.

the glue to use is just a lock tite glue. (I used the red) the sleeves R machined to fit perfectly, so really the glue is just for reassurance. they are inserts, but people R monkeys and always seem to mess something up. but they install very easily. pull the sleeves, clean them really well, remove the pin inside the sleeve, put a single drop of lock tite in bottom of the sleeve (nearest the opening) the slide the insert down tight. Reinstall.
and if your luck is like mine, you'll spend an hour putting the things in and then when attempting to see how much power can be felt, you'll blow the clutch.
I think I'm the first to put the sleeves and have them blow the clutch!!! I want a trophy! haha oh well!

yeah, he told me that it is rally easy to install them. the only reason he was doing them at his shop is because he has them cleaned really well which is most important for the proper fit.
