Pilot Bearing Troubles

Ok problem is i cant remove the pilot bearing on my friends car. We have tried everything to our knowledge except the Mazdatrix tool or an alike tool. The reason is we just dont have the money and if we did i still couldnt justify the $160 for a one-time use. I have tried the grease method(not sure if 100% correct). I have tried the Advance Auto rental too which is a POS. It did pull the seal though but that is about all. Anyone have any other ideas? If someone could also elaborate on the grease method i would appreciate that too.

When me and my friend did it on my car we rented the tool from autozone( I knew the guys working there so they just let me take it) and we had to grind it down a shitload to get it to the right side then when we took it back my friend just bought it since he works at mazda and might need it anyways. So you might need to grind down the edges.

I used a slide hammer and a bolt to take mine out. I found a bolt with a head that was just small enough to fit through the bearing. I caught the back edge of the bearing with the bottom of the bolt head and used the slide hammer to tap the bearing out.

That is a good Idea../\
Another Guy had some washers on a Bolt and nut.He slotted the holes so that the washers would Fall behind the Bearing. Then he tightened up the Nut..smart Guy..
Myself?..Like 87T-66..I used a Dremel.
(look into my previous posts..I go into Detail with a Method...and although I Use one.it is a Use at your Own Risk!)

I used a Bit that looked like a Broken drill bit.it was the size of the shaft that goes into the dremel, and the Cutting part was a little Twisty at the end.It is used alot for Porting.
another "bit" you can try is the ones that have the Hard Stone like material on it and are shaped like Small cylinders. You would be amazed at how they take and Shave metal off
HOW TO:.when you Look at the Pilot bearing you are going to notice that the Outside edges are used to hold in a "race" of Needle bearings. What you want to Do is to Cut that Outer edge to get those Needle bearings out.
Once the Edge is Cut,and you have grabbed the Needle bearings and the Race that hold them in out,Then you can proceed to Cut into the Outer part of the Pilot bearing.
By Carefully Slotting the Bearing(that is,Making a cut the Length of the bearing, out to in.).
what you are trying to do is to Make an area of the bearing Really, really thin.Enough so that the Bearing can now be Grabbed with a pair of needle nose pliers and can be twisted Into itself(making it smaller) and it will just Slide out of the Eccentric shaft.
NOTE:you do not want to carelessly Cut into the Eccentric shaft.Your Main Objective here is to Cut Just the outer part of the Pilot bearing.
IF you find that Making one cut does not do it,then proceed to make another Lengthwise cut in the bearing. To make the Bearing look like it was cut in Half Lengthwise.
With the pilot bearing Now being Cut like that,it will come out.
after removing the Bearing, take some Emery Paper and clean the Hole of the eccentric shaft.
Now you are ready to Replace it..
That's IT!..good luck..
(This Method is Use at your Own Risk..I am not Liable for your actions!).

I got the idea from this video, but i had to make a home made copy of this. I went to a local home depot and bought a long re-thread bolt that squeezed in tight enough on the pilot bearing. On the long bolt i used to deep socket that fit the long bolt to subsitute the wieght.
