Pilot Bearing Seal -- necessary?

I just put the motor in my TII along with a new clutch, and I forgot to put the pilot bearing seal back in there (DAMMIT!!!). I pushed the bearing back about 1/2 way, greased it up, and dropped the motor in...

If I drive it as it is am I going to ruin the <brand new> clutch?

Man I really want to kick myself right now...

Thanks,
Manolis

i replaced my clutch disk once and i didn't use a seal and my car exploded when i started it. (i have scars to prove it) just kidding!! all joking aside, i have change my clutch disk twice and never used a seal and everything is fine. i actually like it better without the seal cause when it comes time to change it again, it's a little easier to get that stupid pilot bearing out of there. so i say don't worry about it. oh yea! when i did put everything 2gether, i didn't put the bearing so far in. i put it almost flush with the taperd part of the e-shaft(hard to explain) wish i had some pics to show you. but it stuck out like 1.5mm

I would use the seal, it keeps the grease on the bearing and not pushes it though the shaft, my friend left his out and ruined it! The bearing

You need to remember that seals not only are designed to keep the grease in the bearing, they are designed to keep contaminants out of it as well. All the grit and crud that comes from normal wear on the clutch disc will find its way into the pilot bearing sooner or later and cause it to fail prematurely.
