Purple? What the hell? Just what kind of turbo glows purple? Iron usually glows red when brought to the temps that a high performance turbo setup will run at.

If it is more than a dull red (on the street) I think I would always check for abnormal exhaust restrictions or an overly rich/retarded mixture before assuming it was "normal".

I've had my turbo glowing very bright yellow-orange before.

it was REALLY REALLY hot. Usually it'll just get to be a very dull red, if that. It's actually kinda rare that it glows at all, unless I've been driving the car hard.

Wow, glow rocks!

However, my whole exhaust glows on my TII. That is not normal.

You look in the N1 Duals and you see a red glow. The cat glows, downpipe, and turbo.

Need to fix it

James

I had my turbo & downpipe glowing a nice shade of orange when I had my timing retarded too much (couldn't set it properly due to the damn rebuild not idling well, so I had to guess) Now the damn thing never glows.

Just think about what that's doing to that oil if you don't let your car run to cool it down. Cooking the **** out of it?
