S5 - 333= Coupe w/o auto shoulder belt
S4 - there is no 333...

seems to me that its an N/A S5 with an N/A S4 motor.

well, it doesn't seem to have a rev limiter. isn't that true of NAs though? although i was surprised to see a slight power drop of after around 7600/7700, since i thought it would pull all the way to 8000...i've got it up to 8500 by the way without hesitation, just it doesn't make much power way up there...

yeah, i thought that S4s only had ONE tps sensor, but on mine there are TWO...it was weird because in the 86-88 FSM, the TPS wiring pin only has 3 connectors, but i was looking at mine and it has 6...just like in the 89+ FSM...i'll try to get a pic up...

maybee a meteor hit it and it became a frnakestein rx7 or someshit thats makes it strange. dont sweat it. i would watch out though, they probobly did a visual swap to an s5 to jack up the price.

J = Japan (country where it was manufactured.)
M = Mazda (the manufacturer)
1 = (manufacturing division)
(4th - 8th Character = features/attributes)
FC333 = 2nd Gen. RX-7, S5 N/A, no auto belts
2 = (VIN accuracy check digit)
K = 89 (model year)
0 = (assembly plant)
(12th - 17th Character = the sequence of the vehicle for production as it rolled off the manufacturer's assembly line)

there ya go!

deltr0n, it's interesting that you bring up that it could be an s5 block...HOW DO I CHECK?

also, i already know all the VIN attributes. the chassis is obviously s5, just everything is mixed with s4 parts...

if you read the thread you would see that the VIN says it is an s5...

you have one serious heck of a Franken-seven there...from what i can see...

S4 tails, seatbelts, shifter, mirrors, engine/radiator.

S5 moldings, bumpers, gauge cluster, interior door panels, chassis.

Interior door panels are gtu ones, but you have factory fogs on the front which were in the gxl's/T2's. You have cruise control (gxl/t2) but no rear wiper (gtu/gtus).

tell everyone its was a prototype S5 that they only released 10 of in early 89 before the true S5's

Well you have a combo of alot of cars there. However, don't worry about it so much! If it runs great, then who the hell cares? Its a great looking car for sure, and I'm sure you'll have lots of fun in it.

couple questions:
1) Which Oil Metering Pump is installed on the engine? Electric or Mechanical? IE: Is there a metal rod hanging off the front of the throttle body?

2) Have you tried grounding the check engine connector located by the battery and checking for ECU codes? It's a green single wire plug. Ground it and turn the ignition on. Does the check engine light flash any codes?

It looks like an S5 car with an S4 engine/tranny swap...the things that have me stumped are the S4 tails, the S4 stereo, and the S4 stereo surround. answer the two above questions and we'll know if you have an S5 ECU!!!

yup, that's exactly what i've decided to do. i went and talked to the guy today, and he didn't really know what i was talking about...whatever. i could probably sell it for as much as i bought it, but it's in perfectly good condition, and there's no guarantee if i buy another FC that it'll be in working order too. so yeah, i'll just stick with my little freak...

i couldn't tell you off hand if it has a electrical or mechanical MOP, but i will take a closer look and let you know. i'll take a picture too of the throttle body

about the CEL codes, i need to try that anyway to see what the ECU is saying...

sobelik, i WAS planning on selling the rims, but doing so probably wouldn't give me enough cash to buy the 5ZIGENs i want...so i will be holding on to them for a while until i get more $$$

That's in awesome shape =D Looks like a Series 4 to me though, comparing to the '88 I own. Exact same interior, engine bay looks pretty much same, same build.. Who cares though, enjoy it No rust it appears, great looking interior, I say go with the flow man.

thanks for the comments. yeah, even though it's an series 5, i have come to the realization that there are more S4 parts on it...

anyways, i am just going to enjoy my car. i worry too much. driving is a simple pleasure, and i am going to just be happy, and put my foot down

Exactly. And when it comes to the N/A RX7's, the difference between S4 and S5 isn't that dramatic except in cosmetics. In RWHP, the difference is rather small. My first RX7 was an S4 and I had more fun in that car than in some much faster cars I've driven.

you would know if it had an s4 intake on an s5 id sound like an exaust leak in the engine bay and then your car would probally catch fire after being driven hard for just a bit
