ummm its all supposed to be like a perfect circle not like waves heres a pic of mine the first time i did mine everyone tells me it came out very well so heres an idea....






the scratches on the top came from when i was trying to take the gasket off with a single edge knife but here are the pics first time i think it came out pretty well

i can do more if i want but i didnt want to get to big all i had to work of of was the carbon marks i didnt have a gasget to work from

thats kind of bad you dont want to be porting just to port. you want to be able to match it to something i matched mine to the gasket which is just a hair bigger

you might wanna smooth those edges, larger is no good if its rough it won't flow much more

TotalImmortal: Uh, rough is good, actually.

I've talked to quite a few piston engine bilders who agree:

When your are porting the heads of a piston engine, when you are done, if it is a street engine, you usualy scuff up the port so that it becomes rough. This actually improves the lower-flow charictaristics of the port. You dont want to smooth it out unless it is only ment to run high RPM WOT all the time.

TII Addict: Porting like that doesnt help much unless you have the gasket to work from.

yes Tofuball i understand the point where your coming from sometimes you want some of the ruff edges to help mix air/fuel supposebly might be wrong but TII get a gasket bro and open it to the size of the gasket if thats what you want but if you look at mine i didnt actually open it i opened it just a hair but all i mainly did was smooth down the roughness...

smoothing an intake manifold to a mirror finish will affect the atomization of fuel... fuel will stick to the walls

if you look at mine its not really a mirroe finish thats just the flash from the camera but if you were to feel it with your finger its actually has a somewhat ruffnesss to it..

Well I didn't say miror finish anyway and usually with our engined anything that will help out in the high rpm is good since thats where they make the most power. And besides I wasn't referreing to the actually texture i was reffering to the shape, maybe I should have said to round not smooth it more it looks a little edgy to me and edgy is bad but I know what you mean by leaving it rough tofuball

Just a general rule:

Rough on the intake = good. It will help with atomization. Mainly important in carbureted engines, or those with throttle body injection.

Rough on the exhaust = bad. It will cause turbulance, and major carbon buildup. Mirror finish is best here.
