Thumbs up Pics of my FC and a few questions/ideas

firts off. for pics of my FC here is the link.

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=334601

oh yeah its a NA S4 and yes it has a TII hood and S5 lights and yes i know some of you think it looks bad on NAs and no i dont want to hear it. sorry for sounding like an ******* but the whole TII hood on an NA car debate is a dead horse now.

ok now onto my ideas.

original idea was to do a 20B engine swap on my car. although with current money issues its been a sloooooow project to get off the ground.

new idea. i am thinking about doing a 13B-RE swap. i have looked up some threads on people who have done it and it im noticing one thing about it. some say it takes around 4K to do and others say it is almost the same price as a 20B after doing a full engine rebuild and switching from twin turbos to a larger single turbo.

so here is my questions. should i stick with goind with the 20B or should i shift gears and go with a 13B-RE swap. just looking for opions and past testimonials from those who have done either swap.

also i play on doing this on a 86 GXL. i will be doing the majority of the work myself, except for the engine rebuild. also i want this car to mostly be a high powered legal street car. i would like to do a few drag runs just to see my time but it wont be a full out drag car. just a nice powerful street car.

thank you for reading my long post and thanks for any opions you have.

I'm sorry, I can't give much information about either of the swaps, but one thing caught me:

why not do your own rebuild? It's really not that hard, especially compared to all the other custom fabrication you're going to be doing....

I love that hood. I cant seem to find one at all for my 87gx rx7, mines the NA. All NA's of course come with the regular hood, only the TII's come with the hood you have. The scoop is for the intercooler interestingly enoughe. Just curious, but whats the 20B engine? I mean I would assume that you'd want to pull an engine from a 3rd gen RX7 but I thought they were the same engines as the second gen, the 13b?

so yea, whats the 20B im very curious

is it really that easy? i have never rebuilt a rotary engine before. i have done rebuilts on piston engines. i figured i would rather have a pro whose done it before than myself. i wouldnt really feel that confident rebuilding a 20B or a 13B-RE on my first time. just wouldnt want to **** up either those engines just cos its my first time.

20B is the 3 rotor twin turbo engine that was in the Mazda Cosmo. They are only realeased in Japan, Austrailia and a few other countries. They are a pretty rare engine.

The 13B-RE is a two rotor twin turbo engine also used in the same car. the engine used in the 3rd Gens is a 13B-REW which is extreamly a pain in the *** to put into an FC.

Glad to see someone else proud of their s4 N/A with TII hood and s5 lights.
Now to the question at hand... If you have the time and money to attempt either of these projects, I'm going to have to say go with the 20B. I think you would end up being much happier in the long run if you did. Having known peope that skimped on restorations, etc, if you went with the 13b-RE you'd be kicking your self for not going with the 20B for the rest of the time you have the car. I've got a friend that did a full resto on a '67 Z28, but he left in the stock auto, and he never forgave himself for not scraping together enough money to replace it with a manual.

Yeah, it is actually that easy The most I had done up until I rebuilt my engine was the normal clutch/brakes/misc other mechanical systems. I have never rebuilt a Piston engine or anything, either. Grab one of the videos that show you how to rebuild your rotary, and then you can see what all is involved. You'll be much better equipped to make the call then to rebuild it yourself or send it out. There's nothing wrong with sending it out, mind you, but it seems like you're definatly not scared of taking on a little challenge

There are plenty in Australia (and quite a few in NZ too), but they're all used Japanese imports.
