pics - coilovers installed - made by Ground Control
Myself & BadAssRX-7 put the coilovers on today in preperation for the racetrack tomorrow.
These are the way to go if you want to adjust the height of your car easily. There is a wide range of adjustment from "crawl up under car" to "can't get the jack under car" to "pot hole killer"
Note I did not buy the $40 wrench to adjust them, but basically 3 turns = 1/4 inch. So measure the wheelwell heights on all 4 wheels, jackup car, turn adjuster, lower car, push down on car to flatten the shocks, repeat. When done, tighten adjuster with allen wrench, drive 1 mile, and re-measure to verify height accuracy.
You end up removing 75% of the OEM strut assembly, cutting the shock bumpers, and removing the dust boot.
Driving Impressions:
Cornering is much improved. The car doesn't even break a sweet. The car is smooth on smooth roads, and fairly bumpy on rough roads. If you put these on your daily driver, I'd recommend getting the adjustable tokico's so you can soften the ride. I just have the non adjust tokicos. The red coilover piece is cut to match the tokico's, so no problems there.
Also, the springs are no longer attached (see picture) and just held down by gravity. So you have to be careful when lowering the jack not to catch the spring sideways. Also no jumping the car

Hard to see through the OEM wheels, but I'll try to post some additional pics.

Wow, talk about some serious cornering ability Just on street tires I was amazed at how fast I could take the racetrack's curves. Really improves you confidence on taking curves.
Letting the instructor push the car to its limits was also equally amazing. 0 body role and maximum grip.
If you want a weekend racer & daily, this is the setup for you. Just get the adjustable tokico shocks so you can "dial up the stiffness." Adding slicks to this setup would give you mind blowing grip.
I'll try to post some pics from today's racetrack event soon. It was great having all 3 gen rx-7s on the track, plus several SCCA 2nd gens & a rotary miata (who kicked much butt).

Here's the fronts after being compressed.
My front wheel wells are 25 3/4" and rears 26 5/8". Thats as "low as you can go" and get the jack under the car.

Sweetness. i'm planning on some GC coilovers as well. glad to hear you like them so much. think you could maybe you could do a quickie write-up of the installation for us people that are considering doing excatly what you have done?

Yeah a writeup shouldn't be too hard.
I bought the ground control coilovers & tokico shocks off a friend, so it was a bit cheaper for me. Nopi sells the non adjustable shocks for $313.48 and matching "for tokico by ground control" coilovers for $417.74. The adjustables Tokicos are $515.08.
Pics of the car's new height may take a while, since it's raining pretty good in the SE right now.

I have the KYB AGX's with Ground Controls on my 10th AE. I was at the same event as vaughnc this past weekend, and they really impressed me. I had the AGXs set at 2(out of 4) in the front, and 6(out of 8) in the rear. I really didn't have any problems with the cars handling outside of my own inexperience on the track.
I DEFINITELY recommend the AGX/GC combo!
