Picked up a turbo2! A GXL owner feels the boost.

Just got home with my new '87 turbo2! Me and a friend took my gxl to go pick it up and he drove my GXL once i had the car. At one point we were both goin 90 down some country backroads in the sun, it was a blast. The boost makes a fun car downright thrilling!

We got the cars lined up, and raced them a few times. That turbo2 pulls like mad, its great. I was surprised the first time cause my friend nosed ahead in 1st in the GXL. Then he put it in 2nd and i just walked away from him. The next couple of times we were like neck and neck off the line, that GXL always has jumped off the line tho.

I was thinking of swapping the turbo2 stuff into my GXL since the interior and paint is so much better, but i cant decide if i want to do that or just restore the turbo2. Hearing the sound of 2 rotarys at wot sure made me feel all warm and fuzzy. Gonna go start checking stuff out under the hood (like the TPS), and give her a tune-up. I'm giddy excited.

If you swap do the full one. Braking, suspension, etc, etc... If not just restore her..Welcome to the world of BOOOOOST!

there is a lot involved in the swap why not swap all the good stuff from your gxl onto your t2?

Thats probably what im gonna do. Right now i have two Fcs that run good. I'll keep daily driving my GXL and save for some paint for the turbo2, it needs interior and exterior repainted cause it is all sun faded red. bleh. Guess the turbo will be all go and no show for a bit, but thats fine. I just cant part with my GXL, it suits me so well for mobbing around town and such. Than i can persue a more aggressive build on the turbo2 possibly and not have to worry about wearing it out around town and in traffic.

Yup! Definitely work with what you've got and keep two solid-running Rx7's. I'm jealous... I want an N/A DD...

Haha, so do I! Still, a clean, stock N/A would be a cool back-up car...

It goes without question, restore the TII.

I bought mine a month or so ago and have been working on getting her ready to drive again. I've considered making it a parts car but I just can't do that. Put the time into and keep both. Please.

I put my GXL away at the start of cold season, but I DD it in the nice months. Fun car to DD actually. Not bad on gas either, despite what some people think. 87 octane FTW!

Yeah my GXL has been a great daily driver. I think my turbo2 is gonna get lightweight flywheel and a drop eventually too so it is not gonna be a easy driver. Plus i have 2 big amps and a heavy *** sub-box in my GXL that would way down the turbo2.

I'd love it if the turbo2 was the same color, but i think i'm gonna do something different with this one, not sure exactly what yet tho, red paint is so damn expensive.

the reason why the gxl pulled ahead was because your friend is a much better driver than you!!!

Yes he is that for sure. My starts are weak, I think this turbo2 could use a gripier clutch too, or im just not used to it yet. Its probably the stock clutch too, the car only has 81,000 miles.

Is the TurboII still running cats or the stock exhaust?
Oh boy, wait till you get a free flowing exhaust on it!

I updated my signature to show what ive done to the GXL, just basically upgrading stuff as it needed replaced anyways. Painted it almost 7 years ago. And yeah the turbo2 is stock and i cant wait to get some mods, want to paint it first though, it really looks its age.
