Picked up non-running car, need suggestions
Hi All,
New here obviously. Just had an opportunity I couldn't pass up - am getting a 1990 Turbo II from a guy at work for next to nothing. He just wants to see it going to a good home.
It's in very good shape, little to no rust from what I understand. Was running, then was parked 6 years ago in garage, untouched since.
I plan on working on it slowly. Looking for input on what is absolutely required (likely all engine seals?), and what else I should consider doing.
One more Q: I'm having it towed to my house tomorrow. From what I understand, the engine hasn't been even turned over in the 6 years. Should I try to start it? Is there damage that could be done if I do?
Thanks!

i would do the following.
basically, step 1 is to see if the engine needs to be rebuilt or not.
i would pull the plugs, squirt some oil in there, and spin the thing around. it should spin freely, and you may hear some compression. i'd then check to make sure it has oil in it, and water. toss in a battery and see if it runs.
if it runs, then you change all fluids and filters, and keep driving.
if it ends up with a blown seal (oil, coolant or compression) than you can pull it and rebuild

You can try and start it, but don't expect anything.
If i were you, i would take the plugs out, and see if the motor rolls over by hand, if it does, than i would put oil in the olug holes, roll it over, more oil, roll it over again than leave it
After that, drain the gas tank, change the fuel filter and verify the fuel pump works.
After that, see if the engine will roll over with a battery, if so, do a compression check. Compression #'s will be slightly high due to the oil, but thats nothing to worry right now.
Check ALL fluids, and top then off
If compression check checks out good, put in new plugs, fresh premium gas, and see if she'll fire. If it starts, watch the gauges like a hawk, make sure it doesn't over heat, makes oil pressure etc.
Thats the way i personally would do it before dumping thousands of dollars into a rebuild right off the bat

after sitting for that long, the fuel pump may be seized with varnish. would be a good idea to have a look in the tank if/when you pull that pump. mine was just covered with varnish barnicles. the pump was a big varnish globule. but that was after about 12 years though. needless to say, the tank was removed and got a thorough acid dipping. came back like brand new!

Picked up the car tonight. Body is in great shape, very little rust. Interior also in good shape, seats have some wear.
178k km on the odo.
It also came with some free pets!
At this point I have no idea what the squirrels got to, so I'm not even going to bother trying to start it.
