Picked up an 88 Vert

For a very good price.Heres the advert I bought it from from Team FC3S:

I have a black on blue 1988 convertible RX-7 that has been a waiting project for years. The car has not run for six years so the engine will need a rebuild. I don't have the title, so it would just have to be a parts car. I'm sure if you really wanted, you could get a salvage title for it.
The car has 118K miles on the body, and is in pretty good shape, but there are quite a few problems as well.

The bad:
The passenger-side mirror is busted, the passenger-side fender needs to be painted, the top has a couple small cuts, the shifter needs new bushings, the exhaust is missing the catalytic converters, the drivers-side fender has a chip in the paint which has rusted, the whole car probably needs new paint, the engine is dead and no title.

I bought the car from my friend who was moving out of state six years ago. I drove it a couple times but it smoked and the clutch was practicaly gone. It has sat at my parents house for almost six years now. I haven't lived there in four years and they want the car out of the garage.

I bought the car virtually site unseen, because I have the S4 motor out of my 88 car we are converting to a S5 T2 widebody, so I knew no matter what I should be able to make the car work cheaply.

When it arrived at the shop we found:

The shift bushings are completely shot, as promised

The motor is completely stock and looked well maintained- the air filter was brand new! After a little ATF, some new plugs and fresh fuel the motor runs very well. It does smoke on startup, but its not terrible (more like typical) and is mostly fuel- horrible old-fuel smell the first few moments it ran, still a little old-fuel odor now but its getting better.

The clutch master cylinder was shot, but once replaced SURPRISE! another issue- the clutch disk was stuck to the flywheel! Nice, I know. I was hoping to be able to free it up with the starter and e-brake, but no luck- it just broke, and from the sound of it the springs are now boucing around the bellhousing. Oh well, it was worth a shot.

The interior is in a weird state of half-disassembly. The driver side door panel was removed, and several off the screws have been pulled from the pass side panel, although it is intact. There is NO carpet in the trunk, and the tool kit and jack are long gone. The radio is in place, but doesnt work- it is a factory Pioneer AE deck, but I have no idea if I can make it work. The cars wired are chpped and hacked too, where a "system" was installed at one time. I am going to TRY to make something work, but we will see. I have no idea about how the AE radio is supposed to be wired in- so any help would be appreciatted. I also need a drivers speaker grill and a few other interior bits if anyhone has them, in blue.

The exterior isnt bad, it has been repainted a decent black, but the paint was applied way too thick and will have to be sanded downand re-painted eventually.
The top isnt terrible and has a single tear in it(which I can fix) and the sides are loose at the body, which will also be repaired.

So sometime this week the clutch will be swapped out, and maybe the trans too. My local Mazda dealers parts system is a joke, so I will be ordering in the shifter bushings etc. For now I will be swapping the parts from the t2 swap I have sitting in the corner I am also going to mount up a new set of tires on the stock BBS wheels, but am looking for a set of "winter wheels" too. I am also waiting for a set of mirrors and the radio surround, which hopefully will ship in a day or two.

All in all I hope to have this car on the road and reliable for less than 1000 bucks
