I think the amber helps to keep refraction to a minimum. White lights might add to the already white fog
blue looks nice on new cars, but amber is old school.

lol....
seriously, I say just swap an s5 bumper onto the s4 and use the stock's that came with it. But that's assuming anyone wants to afford the cost of the bumper. I think aftermarket fogs on s4's just look like crap. Maybe they look ok in the same place as on the s5, but like previously mentioned, s4 bumpers aren't perportioned for light's there, and they block off the brake cooling ducts.

You just need narrow fogs to integrate to the body
So long as they fit within the grid work, they will be low profile enough to not interfere with the air flow. PIAA 1500's work great. http://www.piaa.com/Lamps/Lamp-pages/1500xt.html
Also, the factory fog mounting bracket is designed for Bosch fogs. Original Stock were Bosch Pilots, but their size is a bit excessive. A much lower profile that mounts to the same bracket are Bosch Scout Fog's. A set are mounted on my '87 TII (that was parked at the entrance at last years SS8). Old school look, but lower profile blends better with the cars lines. You'll see it again at SS9, so you can pass judgement if you like the old school look (or not) in person.
And, for what it's worth, best to use a Bosch relay for connecting larger guage wire power direct to the lights so they can draw all the power they want. The smaller guage wire that you'd run through and to the cabin switch just doesn't do the job as well.

One more example of the PIAA 1500's
Pulled this from a forum member selling his 10th AE. Angle isn't great, but you see how they sit well within the design of the S4 front bumper.
