peeling paint, help with paint choices

i have a white 1990 gxl and my paint is peeling really bad. i primered my headlights and hood and took care of all of the rust with rust converter. i would like to paint it flat black but i really don't wanna have to pull the engine or do the door jams etc. so i might just keep it white. would it look stupid if i painted everything flat black but the engine bay? also can i paint it flat black out of spray cans like the did the wrx in sport compact car this month or would it be better to take it somewhere after i primered it. any info would be helpful because i know nothing about painting cars, thanks.

I would say just keep it white, as long as you like it. If it was me, and I had the time, I would pull the engine and doors and do the whole car, inside and out. Come to think of it, I am doing that this winter (if my car dosen't break again...). I think that white under hood with flat black exterior would look retarded as hell, but thats my opinion, and who ever said that counted, right?

rx7jones - reguardless of what you choose to do (color wise), if you're talking about getting it painted, get the body work done (rust, etc), then you do NOT want to prime the whole car with rattle can primer before you take it to get painted. They will have to sand off ALL of the primer you put on the car then.. That will add considerable costs. To keep costs down, you can do all the body work, and sanding, then take it down to places to get it painted.

If you're considering taking the project on yourself, take a look through this thread (Project: Paint the Seven) https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...2&page=1&pp=15

good luck, either way

it may not need to be redone, if you plan on using real, automative grade primer.. I just assumed you were talking about rattle-can like you were in the sentance before talk the shop you'd get the work done at .. But I can tell you most of the labor cost is sanding and body work. cut that out, and you've got a hell of a discounted paint coat price.
